Ruturaj and Venkatesh doing well in the Vijay hazare trophy, both are very close to cementing their place in the national team.

Kohli is that you?

They did reach finals and semis so technically they were close. But yeah can't compare intensity level of jam odis rubbish to WC matches. Unless there is more money involved in payment trophies.

There’s been like 2-3 good odi teams the past two world cups. Making the semi final is not really a big achievement. It’s a travesty that we have not won any of the last two world cups or any of the last 5-6 t20 world cups.

We have underachieved but our team in the 2019 world was average at best, dhawan got injured, middle order options were Shankar, DK and jadhav, dhoni overstayed hence pant was still a rookie. Bhuvi obsession meant shami was underplayed, spinners were okay.

Another century for venky against Chandigarh, 150 with 10 sixes in the middle order, yes the selectors at most times are found wanting but opting to get venky straight in the national setup is commendable, huge confidence booster for the lad and he seems to be batting at a different gear.

Shaw should be a regular opener for India in LoIs.. His strike rate in white ball cricket is ridiculous. The next Sehwag

agreed..i think he should be pulled into Tests too.

these kind of players make the big difference. they have serious talent and as soon as they come into international cricket , they want to maintain consistency also. so i kind of bet he will succeed provided he can handle his short ball weakness.

He should definitely get a chance now but not as an opener, we have too many of those, needs to  in the middle order for India too

These centuries against Indian domestic bowler doesn't give us any confirmation of his quality( considering the fact that even our international loi attack is mediocre) , lets see how he performs in international.

great to see him do well in middle order. We have lot of options for opening.

But MO is vacant

ODIs in SENA aren't JAM. How many ODI series have we won in SENA? Beating Australia, South Africa and NZ at their home is much difficult than beating them in a WC in India or beating Australia and SA in England. We struggle to beat Aus in Aus but we did beat them in WC in 19.

No because intensity level isn't the same. Pressure isn't the same.

I see your point but unless we have a WC type tournament series vs australia over 5 matches, it's hard to say how hard the players are trying in a series.

In the 90s pakistan along with Aussies and saffers were top sides in odi. Pakistan winning once. They won Jamodis in most places.

2000 it was all Aussie. They won everywhere.

2010 era was shared between big 3 but in terms of jamodi series wins, india is probably number 1 followed by Aussies.

Great teams win both the WC and jamodi. We failed to win the WC under kohli despite dominating jamodis.

one other good thing by venky is that he seems to have a good mind. given that he has opened for MP in past (made a 198) and IPL, he could have chosen to play as an opener and the state TM would probably have allowed it. However, he has recognised the lacunae in the Ind team: power hitting middle order batters who also bowl, and he is working specifically on these skill sets.

I wish more players would take a look at the Ind squad, try to identify the holes that exist, and work toward building their game accordingly. this will benefit both them as well as the team as a whole.

We have beaten south Africa twice in bilateral away from India, NZ a couple of times, aus once in the CB series and later the 2019 series, eng back in 2014, NatWest 2002.
