Lesson learnt: Finding world class batsmen is as hard as finding world class fast bowlers.

Most of us millennials grew up in Fab 5 era and also had the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli later on. So by default we expected us to produce world class batsmen without much sweat while finding fast bowlers was the challenge.

Now looking at the dearth of batsmen with right technique not only in India but in the rest of the world as well, I'd conclude that batting can be as difficult as fast bowling.

In fact finding world class cricketers whether it's a batsman, spinner, fast bowler or a fielder is hard.

Batsmen have to be given opportunities to develop their game ... In the absence of A-tours, we should have pushed out the deadwood like Purane and played others.. Aus tour showed what Gill, Vihari could do. Its the team management which failed in this objective by repeatedly playing the same middle order again & again

The search for world class whatever is meaningless and a red herring.

The search should be for talent better than most of the peers elsewhere. And we have an ABUNDANCE of batting talent who are better than Crawley, Burns, Travis Heads, Bavuma, Rassen, Markram etc.

But if they don't play then what's the point?

The tragic part is when the talent is not given the opportunity at the right time it harms their self belief, and then we lose that talent in process.

A team's mental balance and execution of cricketing basics is more important than anything else. We won in Australia with a rookie line up. We won in England thanks to an inept England team in turmoil. In South Africa, we found the perfect opponent ready to swallow ego and put in the hard yards. Indian team tried hard and lost it. We didn't execute the basics - while batting and bowling and finally fielding.

You don't always need superstars to win you games. You need guys with absolute grit - pre-2020 Pujara that won us Australia 2018, Mike Hussey, Dean Elgar, Chris Rogers, Brad Haddin, Vern Philander, Alistair Cook, Ryan Harris - these names go unmentioned but these are the names that win you test matches. We sadly don't have such players in this team.

It willl take time to build a team with good batting talent who can do well in all conditions, especially tough for SC batsmen to do well in SENA conditions. It will be a tough challenge for the next generation of batsmen in their next foreign tours but hopefully, this is where having a coach like Dravid can help.

Atleast we should be able to draw matches. With better batting unit WTC final would have been a draw. If you notice one thing as much as improved our number of wins there is also a reduction in draws. Either we win or lose.  If at all there are any draws it is at home besides some rare example like SCG draw. The day our bowling powers wane or the day our unit bats on better batting surfaces we will be brutally exposed.

Will never find new talent if operating as retirement home. Young players are hardly given any opportunities and if by luck they get a game due to an injury they are back rotting on the bench when the old fart returns.

These guys have toured England Australia and South Africa repeatedly in the last 7 years (3 times each to be precise ) and still haven't improved or even looked minutely close to improving.

They are just not good enough and in the process of persisting with them ,we haven't groomed any upcoming batsmen

We used to take it lightly thinking that batsmen aasani se mil jayenge after Tendulkar and Co., instead lusted over 90 mph phaast bowlers.

Abhi samajh aya ki quality batsmen are as rare as quality fast bowlers.

He was good in that one innings in India given the track. Saw him bat a bit last week and looked very good. I know his record is below avg but I think he has a future.

Till we are just looking to find, we will find it difficult to find such players. We will have to make them, prepare them to become world class.
