Gill has not played since injury while Iyer & Vihari are playing cricket now. Hence for 1 st test  Vihari will play in place of Gill.

Kohli's poor batting is going to get exposed especially now if Gill and Iyer start scoring runs around him.

Kohli is susceptible to the spinners, the slow bowlers, the medium pace bowlers and fast bowlers, he is very good against part time bowlers. Aside from that he bats well.

 

Good team, solid batting to 8, all have centuries. Every player bar Kohli is a proven match winner in the last 2 years in the batting up to 8. Gill doesnt receive much credit for Brisbane as he should. Iyer and Mayank love spin.

 

This isnt a tuk tuk lineup either. They will place scoreboard pressure by scoring at decent RR in Tests. Will be more exciting to watch.

 

Siraj and Bumrah to open SL up, Ash Jaddu and Kuldeep to tear it apart.

idea should be to try bench strength as much as possible. I'd also like to see rohit playing the fulcrum position at 3 or 4 instead, given kohli's decline. sundar should be our long-term 6 and should be groomed pronto. this team has 6 bowling options + batting till 9 depending on the choices.

Kohli should have played his 100th test in Capetown only. Would have been special for him. The Sri Lanka series is a nonsensical pick especially at home.

 

Anyways, his PRs are no doubt quite hilarious, have been abusing BCCI by giving random numbers and trying to show that BCCI is jealous of Kohli's success so not bringing crowds

Every batsman bar Kohli has been able to win a match for their batting in one innings in the last 2 years, Hitman,Mayank, Gill, Iyer, Pant

 

No matter what SL score or if we bat first, Im confident just one of these batsmen will score enough.

 

The beauty of this line up is now we have MULTIPLE CHANCES of a good score. With Rahane, Pujara and Kohli, India had ZERO chances of a decent score with batting with all three of them in the team.

 

Our bowlers in Indian conditions is never really an issue.

 

Need to play Gill now, its not about winning the test, its about getting him to feel comfortable in the Indian team in India and carrying that confidence overseas.

 

Sure its unlucky for Vihari, but the TM need to stop gifting a position because they have compassion for a player. If Vihari was scoring well, this wouldnt be an issue, but he isnt, he at best an average test batsman.

I think the most intriguing aspect of the 1st Test is not even the game itself, its the selection of the First XI.

 

I dont care if we bat first or second, the type of pitch used, for me its the 11 players the TM select and if India have now begun a step in a new positive direction.

In India i would rest Bumrah and play Umesh/Shami. Anyway spinners will bowl most of the overs. Umesh/Shami/Siraj are enough.  If You pick 2 seamers Shami/Siraj and Axar as third spinner.
