What the heck is going on in our neighborhood??

While Sri Lanka faces a financial crisis of epic proportions, Pakistan is going through a trust vote, which could end up being very chaotic.

Already, the SL crisis appears to be affecting us with all the refugees coming over and India having to send aid. It seems like only India is holding up at this time.

Do you guys think these crises could end up affecting India?

You don;t want SLans with their insecurities and complexes! We should be happy they are a separate country!

They can certainly form a union with India, let them remain a separate country but take their foreign policy powers in your hands and promise a plebiscite every 10 years in return.

They hate India and Indians. Deep seated insecurities. Lived there for 4 yrs. They would rather become a vassal of China.

Perhaps apply the Bhutan model to SL. We control all foreign relations and foreign policies while they stay an independent state. We really should have done this in the 80s before sending IPKF.

Not right away. SL never mattered so we are good, pak is a separate story.  Imran himself is raising red flags on economy that said pak requirements in terms of money seem manageable. They are going to IMF for $6B, for a large country like Pak i am sure they can raise $20-30B without much effort. I guess they need a someone like Manmohan singh.

Not many would hv imagined SL becoming officially bankrupt much earlier than Paxtan.  From Indian perspective, the biggest concern is that China might take over larger portion of Srilankan territory and eventually set up military bases over there.  There could be a serious escalation in near future.

China already did take. China owns part of Pakistan, Srilanka and Nepal. I don’t understand Indian foreign policy how incompetent they were and allowed it to happen.

No it won't. But if ever SL could be brought under Akhand Bharat fold, now is the time.

Vishnu Puran doesn't  mention any landmarks in Sri lanka when it mentions extent of Bharat.  As far as I am concerned it has always been our vassal state.  Right from the time Lord Ram's victory over Ravan.

Sinhalese people could cause us trouble with such moves & a large hostile population as well.  Better for us to sign defense deals with them.  Offer us their ports.  Let Indian Navy do its thing.   Make it a Bhutan of sorts for us.

Also any such moves will threaten countries like Nepal & Bangladesh who are our partners especially BD.

Yeah sad actually they were awesome in 60's & 70's & their living standards were daylights ahead of India/Pak.  Even now their HDI & literacy rate puts us to shame.  Rajapaksas sold a beautiful country to Chinese.   Sone ki lanka is ruined eventually again.

China has deep pockets. We cannot compete with them in terms of money. China caught the right ppl who were happy to sell their country to them. What is India supposed to do?

Crazy day in our neighborhood:

Imran Khan dissolves the assembly in Pak

All SL ministers resign en masse in SL.

....

....

In other news, India just signed a historic trade agreement with Australia.
