  1. 1. Is DK the best T20I finisher that India got?

    • Yes, he is and should be in playing XI
    • No, there are much better alternatives
    • He is good but he does not add up to the team composition

He performed well in the Aus and NZ tours in the same role in T#, yet was dropped. So unfair..Glad he has proven everyone wrong.

he was never given a fair run in t20s , that 11 match streak in 2018 came under mostly Rohit only

that yr he avg 60 with a s/r of 152

Thats how poor was kohli time as captain

Impressed with DK's fitness more than anything certainly an inspiration.  His quick reflexes allow him to play those strokes & sweeps.  He is still somewhat from India's golden generation of batting so talent is certainly superior than India's other current batters.

Pant needs to shed a lot weight to be in T20 team.  His shots,  his balance is completely gone.  He used to play those lap shots,  reverse sweeps as well.  Now he's too fat to try  it without losing shape & balance.

fat people should be in equilibrium quite well, but he is not fully spherical - needs to put on more weight to achieve this desired shape.

He looks stupid too often. He needs to open. He can be our Sehwag. If not he needs to tinker with his game for loi.

He thinks too much about not loosing his wicket which the TM always wanted , that's why there is a saying"don't fix which is not broken" or "don't tinker with some players"he could have evolved the way he was before

Now he thinks too much about saving his wicket in LOIs, don't see anywhere just rewind through two month long IPL

Indian TM has failed big time

DK does this time and again

Whose place he is going to be?

thats the toughest question- DK can only do one job only one but what he can do is very very rare. He also does take off immense pressure of Hardik as he can handle what hardik cant

But when a squad is build where u can only take only a certain number of players , not offering any other value can go against you. He cant bowl, field, bat anywhere else which others guys can but he can do what none of those can and very effectively against high quality bowlers.

So at the end it wud be a very hard call for TM- if they want a specialist finisher which is rare or they want players with extra value .

I think it will come down between DK vs Hooda vs Iyer (may be they ll even take 2 among both). From here on it ll depend on how many matches he ll win, unfortuantely he ll always be on thin ice. Few failures and knives will be out, no one will care that at this job u cant be consistent and a player will have many low scores

Give the poor bloke a proper run this time. Natural T20 finisher, among my first picks for the T20 WC team: him, Bumrah, SKY, Hardik....

Grave injustice was done to him when MSD became undroppable for over a decade in this format. Still remember our 1st T20I in RSA which DK single-handedly won. RSA used to demolish us for fun in their backyard in white ball cricket in that era.

As @Ankit_sharma03 said what he does is very rare, especially in context of Indian cricket.

I would ideally like a Nos. 5-7 of SKY (Hooda as backup), Hardik, and DK (for now). However, the opening and top order worry me more - too many players who play for averages and score at tuk-tuk SRs of 120-130, which is not enough on flatter tracks.

TM will play phoney Jaddu in lower MO.

yep, and maybe someone like venky iyer in place of pandya.

with what resources we have, and given that we are playing in Aus, this is the XI I prefer although it won't happen in a million years.

Gill --> consolidator + has the game for Oz pitches [poor T20 record so far]

Tripathi/Shaw --> both are flawed, but they are good "dashers", i.e., score at high SR

KL --> better suited for MO, where he won't have as much time to tuk-tuk

SKY

Pandya (

DK

big-hitting AR --> none on horizon (maybe Hooda/Sundar)

we don't have many lefties apart from kishan; and he can be easily contained by good pace bowling

Every batsman can be contained by something

Gill is a slow starter

Shaw has had massive % dismissal against short ball in last 3 yrs

Tripathi - untested overseas

KL - can be easily contained by leggies

Pandya- Hard length

DK- Leggies a problem

SKY - only guy whose any weakness is yet to be discovered but wont be long before someone figures it out

i was taking about ur team

best XI should be selected. if kishan is one of them, he should play. I feel we should not take lefties just because they are lefties; what if they were to tuk-tuk and waste balls because of not being good enough.

As @Ankit_sharma03 said what he does is very rare, especially in context of Indian cricket.

Completely agree with all your points. It's bemusing why he is considered just as a finisher in T20, let's be honest apart from perhaps Gaikwad, he has the best technique among all the batsmen playing this series.

His records in IPL over the past few season seem to convince posters that he is just a finisher in T20 and unfortunately our TM. His technique is any day better than Iyer, Kishan, Pandya and Pant. He might not be a long term fix but atleast give him a chance to prove his worth, especially considering that his strike rate is due to his range as opposed to inconsistent traditional power hitters.

Respect for reinventing his career and his fitness at his age is impressive, considering with Pant and Shaw displaying horrendous fitness given their age

yes, he is on the verge of regaining it.. much like how I am on the verge of going to the Moon as India's first man on the moon. Will say hello to everyone on ICF then.

I would back you as the first man to land on Mars as a more likely occurrence, then Kohli regaining any respectable form.

I know towards the end of his career SRT was "carried" but he was genuinely loved and respected by all and in some way the BCCI respected him and his contribution to Indian Cricket spanning 4 decades, so he earned his right to dictate when his retirement should come.

While WI were really poor at the time, lets not forget in his final innings SRT made 70+ and still outscored Kohli in that match.

SRT in his last ODI made 50+ v Pakistan at a SR over 100 too and in that match India won the Asian Cup.

Kohli can only dream of these scores now.
