Should the home test series versus Aus in early 2023 be the last for Rohit-Kohli?

If Rohit-Kohli begin to perform, good. But if they continue to fail (esp. considering overseas tours in future), should the home test series versus Aus, probably scheduled for early 2023, be the last for Rohit-Kohli? Rohit for some reason or the other tends to miss tough overseas games/tours.

Next test series from the top of the mind recall:

  • Ind tour to BD in late 2022 (Rohit-Kohli probably not required)
  • Aus tour to Ind in early 2023

Discuss!

PS Rohit-Kohli may have six months of decent cricket left in them, but those six months can come after a year or even two, therefore, India would need to look ahead anyways :hmmm:

These guys need to start performing big time "now" to be relevant

Early 2023 could be a good time for Rohit to exit as he will be 36 by then. Kohli should be let go sooner than 2023. His continued presence despite poor returns and the constant chatter about his batting form is a distraction the team can do without

No.  Maybe the England test of 2022 should.

... and then if they get back into the domestic circuit and dominate for a year (high avg, high SR in FC, clutch knocks etc.), they can be reconsidered.  But they have to earn it back at this point.

Earliest could be post T20WC22 as selectors are likely give them enough rope (based on class is permanent, form is temporary or whatever) to both hang themselves and Team India :dontknow:

Kohli is finished. They are literally dragging a dead corpse around. There is going to be no bounce or resurgence.

Rohit may have another a year max in him buy his fitness and going AWOL leaves a lot to be desired. He does not have the stomach for the fight but does have the belly for the buffet.

Never write off great players..unless you have been in their shoes.

What's the hurry, let them get players better than him in the squad first and then we will see.

The new generation of cricketers won't even last 10 to 20 tests.. we will see what happens to Test cricket itself

First get rid of Pujara.

Yes first the biggest parasite Gujara needs to be thrown out. That guy is disgrace to watch. Rohit still scored 100 in eng what is this one format freeloader is doing since past 2-3 years.

Yeah keep backing them. Pujara who at his peak used to averaged around 52-53 is down to 43 now and soon will be below 40 if we keep backing him. Might as well get to play his well deserved 100 match in this format in series against australia at home. Also pant, gill are from which generation who won us series in australia and pant has played many impactful knocks which so called great players couldn't do in their whole career.

The lineup for AUS vs home will be this and this is quite a strong team. ( apart from Kohli)

Rohit

Rahul
Gill
Kohli
Iyer
Pant
Jadeja

Ashwin
Axar

Bumrah

Shami

Pujara, Rahane and Vihari should be dropped permanently.

Mayank as backup for home test.
Sundar, Sarfaraz as backup in middle order.

Rohit, Kohli, Pujara all retiring simultaneously. Vihari not convincing. Our test team will need complete overhaul soon.

India has never managed to groom youngsters to transition them to the test team at the right time.. it took a few years after the retirement of the fab 5 for us to be somewhat competitive in Tests even with the Dhoni the test captain debacle. So yes even now when the trio of the oldies go the replacements will not be able to handle the rigour and demands of Test match batting
