Ben Stokes: Pant shouldn’t be criticised for his bold approach

 Stokes again turned his focus to Pant's performance.

"Rishabh Pant's innings for India in the first innings was obviously against us, but I absolutely loved watching it," he said. "Being on the receiving end of something like that is just is incredible to watch.

"And it's great to see now that someone like Rishabh, who's obviously received his criticism over the years, is now getting applauded for that.

"The more we see players like that succeed in the way that they want to do, I think the negativity around that type of way of Test cricket will eventually die out, because it's so exciting to watch.

"Cricket is an entertainment business at the end of the day. Yes, you want results and stuff like that, but you want people to enjoy watching a spectacle.

"Test cricket has always been a spectacle, but it's about doing it differently now. So cheers, Rishabh."

There is no reason to criticize Pant!

Only those who don't understand cricket criticises Pant or perhaps those who watch cricket casually and mostly have followed LOI cricket do it and also because they used to be Dhoni's fans and Pant was hailed as his successor and replacement.

It's very simple. Everyone loves Pant when he scores big. Everyone is a Pant critic when he flops.

Stokes has more respects for Pants than many of Indian so-called "experts". Pant should consider migrating to Eng and taking over gloves from Foakes/Billings. He would fit in well with Bazball methods

his same approach has given him success.................he wont succedd every day but when he does he will have a huge impact and thats what we shud look for IMPACT

The likes of Pant and SDP are usually praised by foreign commentators (Aus & Eng in particular), while the Indian laggards would be stuck on Rohit and Kohli (class is permanent and so on), along with KL esp. when he is Tuk-tuking in LOIs (playing responsibly for “them”)

One of the reason he is more under scrutiny is because our batting line up is so thin compared to the line up Sehwag was part of. It was almost like considered bonus runs. With this one-dimensional line up every single wicket became an important wicket. Pant batting alongside Tendulkar, Dravid/Laxman/Ganguly would have been a box office stuff especially overseas. Hope we find someone similar to him (mentally).  Gill can be one if he is moved down the order.

Stokes was right in Tests. and this approach might pay off in the long run in ODIs too.

Not really, if the ball moved as it did on day 2 or early day 4 Eng would've been done in the last test. His approach will mainly work on pancake wickets with ball doing nothing, I'm betting next time they turn up in Pak/SL or even Bangladesh & ball does something they'll have mud on their face!

I meant that he was right in Tests about supporting/backing Pant. Perhaps I was not clear, but this was in the context of the thread (which has that title)
