Pant needs to replace Dhawan as opener & Gill needs to replace Kohli at #3

Just do these 2 changes and our ODI team will be on the upswing again.

We don’t need any more changes for now

I've lost all hope of strategic, substantive changes to team composition. Indian cricket has a problem of plenty, which can be a good problem if managed correctly. But then, am just a keyboard fan with a few years of gully cricket experience.

Main thing to consider is that World Cup will be in India.

I believe the top 3 will be same, then all 3 will be dropped from ODI cricket whether India win or lose World Cup.

Maybe Dhawan will be dropped earlier.

Main thing should be that the number 8 should be able to bat and also the 2nd Spinner should be able to bat.

D Chahar/B Kumar/S Thakur

S Gopal/W Sundar/R Ashwin/A Patel

KL should open as he has probably the best defense among top order right now, have literally anyone else open with him apart from thigh slapper!

Nope. KL has issues with both temperament as well as left-arm swing. keep him in MO, where he can offer some useful stability. Ideally, we need a diff top 3 and our MO should consist of Rahul at 4, Pandu at 6.

Why don’t you rate Gill?

I rate him but form also matters. Seems out of form. You just can’t play cricketers on name.

Pant is obviously a proven performer and established name even though has some way to go.

Oh you mean the guy he should replace, Virat Kohli?

Pant as ODI/T20 opener is the kind of garbage idea for which you should lose the license to watch cricket, much less hold on opinion over it. The fact that Indian TM actually made him open confirmed my theory that they are unthinking zombies and beneath contempt. Shame on Dravid and shame on Rohit.

Get this - Pant is made for making difficult runs when the team is in strife. Play him at 4/5 and he'll make you re-live and then forget about the so-called Dhoni era.

Pant opening in ODIs is no-go. He has been a top middle order batsman since his role has felt more guaranteed.

Drop Kohli, play SKY at 3 and KL at 4. Pant 5, Hardik 6.

And we need a different opener (try Shaw or Ishan Kishan) to pair with Rohit at top for 2023 WC.

Shaw in for Dhawan, Pant stays at number 5, Hooda at Number 3, Sky at 4. Kick both Delhi ke Laundes out.

shaw is clearly out of favor with selectors and TM. sadly not gonna happen.

the two delhi bois won't be going anywhere till 2027 WC

At the start of year, I used to think Brohit had a role in our ODI set up and that Kohli and Dhawan needed to be thanked for their services. It's clear that I was wrong about Rohit, he needs a thank you and goodbye note himself.

If Rohit is not contained now, then watch him mutate into an insecure dummy who will make the exact same mistakes we saw with Kohli in his last years as skipper.

No he is not made for 4/5 in LOIs but he is some talent and he will surely adapt. Wouldn't mind him opening in t20s. We have many specialist openers for ODIs. Shaw, Jaiswal, gaikwad can be future. No need to open him in ODIs.
