And I think Hardik can be a very good No 7 or No.6 in test matches too.

Plays the ball under his eyes ... defends with a straight bat and with soft hands ... can play genuine pace ... bashes spin ... can up the ante when needed.

Plus his bowling covers both bases ... he hits the deck hard for bounce when there is no movement ... gets outswing in favourable conditions.

it's more a matter of balancing his bowling load, I think. if overdone, his back injury may get retriggered

Add Asif Ali as well

Basically, SDP has to compete with everyone combined so if A does well in x inning, B in Y inning, & C in Z inning ... SDP has to play like A in one inning, B in another, and so on

Hardik can easily replace any of the middle order specislist batters in the test 11.

Apart from Pant, Rahul and Rohit, no other test batsman has added anything to our batting strength in the last 18 months or so.

His bowling can be a bonus for 7 to 8 overs per day.

Since we don't have technically correct batters anymore, we need fast scorers in tests too who can maximize the output of their stay at the crease.

Some of them were true at the time he was called. That is why he was kicked out. There is no guarantee he won't flop in the coming world T20.  NO guarantee he won't pick up an injury. All the criticized players have put up some performances at the international level at some point.  Thakur had incredible numbers too in the test series. Also won the Gabba test.

yes, our nos. 3-5 have been inconsistent, to put it very mildly. especially our no. 5.

it may be worth trying him at 6, pant at 5, and jaddu at 7.

ofcourse it was wrong, expecting consistency from a raw fasttracked cricketer is too much

Injury is not in players hand , and most all rounders in world cricketer are suffering from it.  Its very hypocritical how we downplay our young players comparing them to other players who also have had same issue.

Its wrong coz his career was still in his early part and then also he won quite a few games. Yes he can fail in t20 wc but expecting him to keep performing series after series is too much . Injuries are not in players hands so that criticism anyways is bizzare . Great thakur had good number but why to abuse pandya , they arent even competing for same spot neither their career will go same way.

No one succeeds every day

Neither their is anything called a perfect cricket

U play ur best choice and if u keep reacting to scorecard on daily basis u will never have a team .

oh my GAWD.  He only averages 39 with a strike rate of 114.  What a terrible player.   His average is one entire run lower than Jos Buttler's so what if Pandya bats at higher SR than Buttler.  Bring back Dhoni with his 79 strike rate in his place, at least his average is 50.

I'm trying to understand, is this a criticism of Pandya, or a compliment?

Is there any cricketer that escaped ridiculue, criticism? Tendulkar/Dravid/Ganguly/Kohli/Dhoni every goddamn cricketer are subject to criticism, ridicule when they don't do well.  Even Bumrah is under fire from time to time. Applicable in all sports. Pandya was groomed as the sole all round option back in 2019. Went missing. INdia had to pick Vijay Shankar as the last minute option. Then against 2020 world T20. He played as a batsman with no real touch. Didn't bowl anything. For some reason he was given super start treatment like he could walk in to the side any time he wants, he could take a break any time he wants.  It certainly irked fans. Hence the backlash.  Anyone who goes missing constantly due to injuries don't deserve preferential treatment no matter how "good" they are.  Be it is Deepak Chahar or Washington Sundar or Bhuvaneswar. Now that he has had a great series doesn't mean he is not subject to scrutiny in the future.

According to @maniac 'acumen' it is supposedly "proven" that he is not a viable test contributor....

He has talent to play test cricket. But he seems injury prone when he has to play the longer format. He would need to be managed well.
