We have seen it thousand time you need wkt takers , mercuiral bowlers if you want to win in crunch situation. These trundler might bowl economical on certain conditions but they would neither bowl economical in crunch pressure match ,nor will they take wkts to change course of the match and it has been proven since 2013 till date. Correct. The best way to contain a run rate is not with maintaining a good economy but by taking wickets. Teams can score big in the last 5 overs with wickets in hand. the don Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Lockie furguson almost clocked 158 kph on the same speed guns. Umrans problem isnt just the lack of control/ skill atm, the fact that he bowled at Chris Jordans pace in international t20s does not help his case at all. If he had bowled 155 kph people would have noticed but 141 kph rubbish won’t help at all. nitinbwj 1

They should tell him to bowl fast no matter what. Only then he will gain any confidence. There are various ways to facilitate his launch and progress in international cricket but the chewt TM is totally disinterested and wants a trundler army. Or, maybe someone above the TM's pay grade has told them that he is a no-go! nitinbwj 1

Not too bad for a debut series when nerves come into play. He managed to defend 17 runs in the last over of his last match. Pacers get quicker when their place in the team is assured. Nobody can bowl flat out when they know that 2 bad matches mean getting dropped. SRH gave hom that assurance and he bowled quicker. The 157 k did not come during his earlier IPL matches. Anyway, even consistent 140 + is a big asset in Australia and an option we don't have . That pace would have been useful in the middle overs and at the death. Shame his control is not that good. He bowled high 140s to 150 even in Irani trophy match and guy is just 22. Potential is huge. With his action and approach, he can become one of the fastest bowlers world has ever seen. Adorable Fan Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 (edited) We are hoping a guy with mentality saying first aim is to contain not wickets as our spear head. Current TM and selectors are complete jokers when it comes to pace bowlers and handling them. Thinking the stats and numbers will win them cups and few morons here do support bringing the useless stats and numbers for back up without thinking what kind of matches and situation the stat padding has been done. raki05 Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 (edited) On top of it bcci has screwed any chance or exposure which he might have got playing against sa or smt. They made him net bowler and dint even apply for his Visa, they did same with Tyagi when he did net bowling during eng test rather than playing domestic or series against SL. Sooda Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 It is too late now he should have been given every chance after the IPL. We can still scratch together a decent pace attack. Need Siraj to make it.
Clarke Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 He's not ready yet & needs to follow Munaf's career chart. In a decade or lesser, he'll be bowling 125 kmph and will play for India. nevada, raki05, BacktoCricaddict and 1 other 1 3

But was bowling at 147-148 kph consistently in India. Even similar case in England. But on ICC, IPL speed guns bowled 155-154kph.. Same with lockie. Haris Rauf too is bowling 145-147kph on kiwi speed guns but he clocked 152kph vs India on ICC speed guns last time in WT20. IPL ICC Asia Cup speed guns are more consistent & accurate.

I don't think bowling at Munaf's pace is gonna work for him, there is a pace range where people are most comfortable while bowling...suddenly reducing the pace won't guarantee accuracy. express bowling 1
The Realist Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Has potential and certainly needs a decent run to assess but feel people may be overrating his skill set as any optimism has been crushed having to endure Dravid & Sharma's Trundler Factory. Unfortunately the brain-dead management and selectors rarely give young players a chance even when in peak form. Adorable Fan 1

Those two still get tonked around.. Harshal even by club teams. That's when people get angry to see those guys playing over him. I personally feel on current form Kuldeep Sen is better pick than Umran. But these 2 are anyways better than what we are seeing with Harshal. raki05 1
