Anyone here who agrees with me?
In big games this guy is the MVP for india. The rest are good players but dont make the sort of difference he does. Pakistan would probably have won the last 4 t20s against India if he hadnt stood up in 2 of them . Same vs eng and aus. Very important player for india and irreplaceable. A bad day for him pretty much means defeat. Discuss? India must keep him bowling fit at all times.

India - Hardik

England- Sam Curran, Woakes, Willey

Australia - Stoinis, Marsh (Decent options)

South Africa- No reliable option

Sri Lanka- Karunaratne

New Zealand - Neesham

Pak & Bangladesh - :yousuck:

70% or not, I don't know.

But I agree with the general sentiment. India need HaPa to perform with the ball or the bat.

Won't give a number to him, but genuine pace bowling allrounders are rare commodity, add a filter of someone who can bowl 140+ and the list shortens a lot.

He provides a crucial balance to Indian side by his batting firepower, and can terrorize the subcontinent teams with his pace and bounce on the juicy pitches, not to mention a very good fielder with a never give up attitude.

On the bolded part, I think the best option is to develop the alternatives as it's not easy to maintain fitness. We have few new kids on the block from U-19 batch, selectors should start grooming them with the main squad, to provide contingency in future for Bumrah's injury type situation.

70% is way OTT.  Obviously when a player is capable of delivering with both bat and ball, he becomes quite important to a team.

Add to that, his temperament is quite solid, which is quite uncommon and hard to develop/teach unless the players has some bit to begin with.

Pak fans haven't even seen his batting quality much yet, most of the times he has bashed their spinners a lot, but in his career Hardik has won a few ODIs and T20s against Australia with 'proper' batting against top shelf pace bowling.  The only 'chink' in his batting is that his attack ability against 'hard' length is not as good as against the fuller lengths, or other types of bowling.  But even that is an issue for majority of batsmen, so its not some sort of 'weakness'.

Regarding his bowling, it has regressed a bit in terms of variations that he bowls in matches - prior to his injury, I have seen him bowl mustafiz type cutters, knuckle balls, yorkers - even slow loopy yorkers.   He did bowl a few good cutters in UAE, but the rest of the variety hasn't been on display yet. At this point, his batting is important enough for India to 'settle' for part-timer level bowling contributions, so not that big a deal.

Shardul Thakur does that in two important test matches. Deepak chahar in right conditions can come good as well. Imagine all 3 playing. Indian batting depth will be incredible. Throw in Venky Iyer   That is a solid seam bowling all rounder unit.

Tbh, Thakur should have been in this squad of 15.  Harshal edged him due to his consistent performances in multiple IPLs, but that's in very different conditions.  Thakur's skillset would have served us well in this WC.  I keep going back to Andy Bichel when I see Thakur.

i wud have taken thakur for hooda , hooda in reserve

if batsman get injured get pant in and replace that injured guy with hooda if needed

Thakur is not good in white ball but his bowling works on longer grounds or when pitches offer something be it pace/bounce/tennis ball bounce/slow surface/ swing. Then he becomes an asset

Two of the top IPL performers completely sidelined. Harshal and Chahal. It took a while for them to realize it is risky to play someone like  Harshal. They had enough time to replace him. But they stuck with him for whatever reason.  Thakur is a significant upgrade over him in these conditions. Both with bat and ball.

Cricviz recently did talk about it that he is the most important player for India, india cud still manage without bumrah but had it been hardik injured the whole side wud have lost its balance

If it were not for Shadab's effectiveness I tge middle overs, we would have beaten you in all 4 T20I's too.

BTW what happened?  Was there a Hardik Pandya in the ZIM side as well ?

Just play Thakur in place of one of the spinner and we shall be good.

If we meet Pakistan again in this tour (looks unlikely though), I would like Thakur, Shami and Pandya to hit the helmet of Pakistani batters and terrorize them.
