What are those changes needed? IMO it is not at all a big deal to losses these match and nothing has been exposed also. Other Than dhawan there is not many changes in batting needed, bowling is where lot of changes should be done .

Bowling has stunk in white ball cricket since 2013. India never had a great white ball bowling attack. Rahul Dravid and KL Rahul both have to go and some one needs to make Pant opener and leave him there. Then batting is then set.

Rohit and Kohli have carried this team for over a decade without ever getting any help. Let us what help they get in 2023. They are still best odi batsmen in the country.

Indian top order bats too conservatively, especially top 3 - to be blunt, they bat selfishly.  India consistently scores the least amount of runs in the 1st powerplay and regularly concedes the most.  Its always gambling on "catching up" with the scoring rate later hoping that one of the top 3 "goes big" after 'getting their eye in', and loses countless games because the top order eats balls, and then fails to kick on anyway.   Others have already pointed out the over-emphasis on seniority and reputation, and the failure to groom newer players  - forget grooming, younger players who could potentially inject the necessary momentum and fresh approach into the team have been hindered from establishing themselves.

Dravid already said that hopefully he will get the full team by January.

So, the excuse in his mind is that he lost because there was no Hardik, Jadeja, Bumrah and Chahal. He thinks that his approach, tactics and team selection were ok.

Why would he bother changing anything then unless he is thrown out and a new coach comes  !

In theory, Dravid is right, he wanted to beat Bangla and would have done so with those 4 players missing. No matter what idiotic tactics and approaches Hitman and Dravid make they would have worked vs Bangla with these 4 missing players.

However, what he fails to realize that beating a minnow and beating big teams in the WC with these tactics are flawed, I agree with you on this.

+1

I actually think they use "mathematics" to justify their sedentary approach in the 1st powerplay. I agree its selfish and a deliberate approach to justify their selection in the team. ie Creating a platform.

If they score around 40-45 runs in the first 10 overs at around 4 per over, in reality its "only" three 6s needed to get that run rate to 6 per over. A lot easier to do this earlier in the game when they have a lot of balls to play and weaker bowlers to come later and get those big 6s. Their approach is flawed because invariably they get out in WC games and places all the pressure on the middle order.

Just take a look at bilateral series in India, there was a time, where India only 3-4 batsmen only to set a target or reach a target.  So the middle order and or kids rarely get the opportunities to play consistent games. Whereas 1,2,3 are always having opportunities.

Less than 10 months, doubt we will see much changes. Dhawan is the only fall guy. Pant and KL will be backups for each other. Benched and Injured seniors will be back. I seriously doubt Sky will be in the playing 11, might be in the 15.

@sandeepWhat lessons are you optimistic that they will learn ?

Seniority system is deep rooted. It requires a massive change at every level. Reputation based, seniority based selections is why India is way behind instead of way ahead.

@sandeep the thread is fine and all, but the level of inertia and cronyism is staggering. I don't foresee changes till end of 2024 WT20. most of the current core will play 2023 and some will play 2024 too. there are enough posters even in ICF who persist in vehemently defending top 3 to this day and even KL has his share of (deluded) fans

Yeah F all is going to change.

It's desperate watching the Retirement Home when the WC is going on. The contrast is glaring when teams that crash out result in firings and retirements.

There is no culture or desire to win in Ind cricket. Just ageing past it individuals content to pad their own stats.

The way Eng have revolutionised their cricket will never ever happen in Ind. Eng are racking up trophies while Ind are not even standing still but are going backwards.

Dhoni removed many seniors in his time. First Ganguly and Dravid in 2007-08 from ODIs as soon as he became captain.

Then in 2012 clearly told Sehwag, Gambhir and Sachin that can't play all 3 of you together as I have to to give chances to players like Rohit, Jadeja.

Even a big match player Yuvraj was not picked until he performed at domestics after 2012.

At the moment Indian Cricket is totally opposite. Seniority and experience is counted supreme.

Rahane had to suck like for 5 years and even in domestics to not earn the call.

We dropped a batter who scored triple ton for Rahane.

Pujara can keep playing as long as he wants.

Dhawan is well past it but keeps getting in XI despite 5+ options waiting for their chances.

Chahal whenever he is in squad gets picked in the XI unless more senior Ashwin is in the squad.

He is not alone.
Most of the young fans (in age of 14-22) still believes that Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli etc are the best top 3 in the world and we would have defeated Bangladesh easily if we had Jadeja, Hardik and Bumrah playing here.
In their mind Pandya would have made 40(16) and Bumrah would have broken Miraj's stumps with his yorkers had they played.
These are the fans, who are most active on SM and give max. support to the players. Not their fault as most of them have grown up seeing Rohit scoring double centuries and Kohli playing like a "chase master" and hence it's tough to see their childhood stars failing.

Glad that U are wise enough not to mention Zim.   Coz loss against Zim is reserved for some other team.     :cantstop:

I like it when folks exude such confident energy making predictions when they have absolutely no agency in the facts of the matter.

What are you even expecting is going to happen? Lol.

Everyone is going to advise them that they cannot make any hasty changes and stick to the process. The only changes that will be made is if we don't have a good 2023 World Cup.
