Seam bowling all rounders

Do we have any? When we tour SENA we may need someone like Green. Thakur is not exactly like Green. He is a couple of levels below.  Is our only option is to hope that one of the seamer developer batting skills?  What about Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Raj Bawa? Instead of trying to keep shoving "spin bowling" all rounders like Hooda why not these knuckleheads gamble on a seam bowling all rounder?

Green isn't going to do anything in India either. Shardul is better than green in Asian wickets. Green has an advantage on SA Aussie pitches only. Maybe might work in England too. Not sure. However as a batsman he is tiers above thakur.

More like a 4th bowling option.  Pandya role from the past.  Thakur is definitely a better bowler. But when we consider both departments Thakur is fast becoming a bowler who can bat.

Its not like we haven't "gambled".   Journeyman like Sanjay Bangar and Stuart Binny have had shots at test careers.  Pandya could have been a useful piece but multiple back injuries means he's a white ball only player.  Pace bowling allrounders are coming - 10-15 years ago, all we had was once in a blue moon Bangar and Abhishek Nayyars, now instead of unicorns, its a trickle and picking up pace.  Bound to throw up viable players eventually.

Thakur is not a genuine AR. He had a good patch where teams did not have much info on him. Also he is not getting any younger.

If conditions do not suit him, he is likely to be a liability.

To be fair to him, he has done really well in conditions that are conducive to swing. Batting wise yes he is just a bit part cricketer who can bat a bit. That innings vs Aussies seems a distant memory now. But something else has changed. If you observe his physique in Australia during 2021 vs his current fitness level, he was so much fitter (touching 135-142 consistently etc) at the time. Ever since arun quit his job, our bowlers have become unfit.

Then we ha e gumrah, as good as he is, he spends far too much time resting. You only get stronger by bowling more and getting your body conditioned.

India don't have a seam bowling all rounder. They have a spin bowling A/R -  Washington Sundar.

So, they can play a 4th bowler who can bat at no.8 like Thakur or D Chahar.

Hangargekar is the obvious choice for future. He has got good pace and is a bowling A/R. So, let's see how it pans out for him.

If you are looking for a Green, Stokes type player, we simply don't have that. Pandya is done as far as test is concerned.

But we have an alternative choice. That is Washington Sundar, a spin bowling A/R. This allows us to play 4 pacers from 8-11. One of them should be able to bat a bit. That would do for us.

Binny was never good enough for Tests though like his dad was.  Bangar was more a batsman who could bowl.  Atleast that is how he was treated. Wonder in current era he would have had a shot. Irfan Pathan was the last genuine seam bowling all rounder we had at Test level. Pandya had a very short career.  2022 under-19 batch gave us some hope. Hope they get some run even if they fail.

Hangargekar is more of like Thakur, Woakes type...bowling allrounder/bowler who can tonk big.

Bawa is skilled in both departments (atleast during the U-19 level), his bowling is better than his batting as per whatever domestic he has played. But he sure can develop into one.

Allrounders these days excel in one department more than other...let's see where Bawa goes.

The way the all rounders bagged millions should hopefully inspire some fast bowling all rounders. Curran, Stokes, Green.

Hangargekar can clock 140+ though which Thakur, Woakes can't. He is 19 year old so maybe by 22-23, he can become a bit more faster and clock 145 mark.

For some reason, pretty much all our Under 19 fast bowlers have gone bust at senior level. Mavi and Nagarkoti were a lethal combo in Under 19 but now they are always injured or bowling poorly when playing. I wish the BCCI would have a program to transition promising young fast bowlers like Hangargekar seamlessly to the senior level.

3D Shankar might be an option. He is a reliable fielder, can bat okay and bowl a few spells.

He is a non playing captain even for TN lol

Arjun will be the next maharathi .
he has height , hunger to succeed , seems to have the batting ability . I am pretty sure in this ipl he will have a breakthrough season . Like his dad , he will win us matches with bat and ball .

thakur and sundar together make up as two allrounders - one bowls well and one bars well . The other skill is slightly inferior ( yes thakur is a good 4 th bowler )

chahar good for England / nz

hangar and Bawa are unknown

great emphasis in bowlers being able to bat . Expect more all rounders in future . I am happier if we get spin bowling all rounders as they serve the same purpose of giving depth in batting

Hangu

Bawa

Arjun Tendu

however, none look like irfan pathan level cricketers. let's not forget irfan had avg of around 30 with ball, which was very good in those days of pattas (admittedly lot of help from minnows) and also had 30+ batting avg.

While searching for true all-rounders, we are picking too many weak bowlers with a bit of batting ability ... like Shardul, Chahar, Unadkat, Harshal.

Not good.

Batting is not getting strengthened but bowling is getting weak.

While looking for bowling all-rounders who will bat at 8 or later, first find bowlers who will find a place in the team as a pure bowler even if he could not bat. Then pick the one with best batting ability for No.8.  Ashwin in tests is a perfect example.

While looking for batting all-rounders who will bat in the top 7, first find batsmen who will find a place in the team as batsman even if they could not bowl. Then include the one with best bowling ability at 6 or 7.  The current day Jadeja in tests or Hardik in LOIs are good examples.
