Just like how he let go of T20 captaincy to save his test cap, he's trying to save his test spot now by letting go of T20 spot. Hopefully the selectors are ruthless

He has done it because after 2 WCs in that format within a year t20 cricket will take a backseat for a while so he won't need to play many meaningless matches. One can hope that that leads to him fixing his test and ODI batting issues but it will need him to at least play some domestic cricket. His woes against spin means that he is at best as good as a SENA batsman in subcontinental conditions considering the way he got out in the last innings against Mehdy.

His problem imo is that he wants an ICC trophy win where he is a standout batsman for his career legacy but also needs to keep playing test cricket even if there isn't a prestigious trophy for that format as ultimately that is what decides who ends up where among ATGs so he finishes with a 50+ average.

neither is gonna happen though, especially the test avg >50. in india, we are preparing turning pitches (even if not raging turners) and even a half-decent spinner will get him out. if we go overseas, he won't do well in S, E, and N. that only leaves Aus, WI as options since the pitches will turn in Bang and SL too

We need more pitches like the 2016 England series and for him to stat pad like he did then. It was at his peak though. For most of his career at home it seems as though our pitches have been quite spinner friendly. Don't know whether that means he would definitely average mid 50s if he played in the mid and late 00s when we had a lot of flat pitches though.

This is smart decision by kohli. T20 will be in backseat till 2024 now. He fears getting dropped from ODI/Tests. So he gives up T20 for a while to pressurize selectors not to drop him in tests and maybe even ODIs.

BCCI had already informed Rohit-Kohli that they will not be considered for T20s considering that the next WC is in 2024.

PS as I posted on a thread that I started in Nov:

"The BCCI never asks anyone to retire. It is an individual decision. But yes, with just a handful of T20Is scheduled in 2023, most of the seniors will concentrate on ODIs and Test matches in that cycle," a BCCI person told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"You don't need to announce retirement if you don't want to. You will not see most of the seniors playing T20 next year," the source added.

no, he would be facing likes of murali and warne, who are far better than current spinners. even herath, vettori, saqlain, etc. were better than most of current bunch. they would find ways to get him out even on flatter tracks.

Very valid point. He tried to act smart, insisting that he will continue to captain India in ODIs and Tests, as if it is his choice! The selectors should drop him from tests, as they have done in the case of Pujara and Rahane. Pujara has gone to County cricket where he had a good amount of success. Let Kohli also do the same or play Ranji like Rahane and earn his place back in the side.

Pride and Arrogance.

Kohli would rather "retire" than to find form in Ranji Trophy.

You love to repeat this line like an automaton. King Coolie is one of the worst to play T20s. In ODIs, at his peak he crumbled in knockouts. A DUD.

Better than tendu

He did admittedly have a peak when he was ranked the no. 1 T20 batsman around 2016 I think but then that was when he was at the peak of his powers in all formats of the game.

If he wasn't going anywhere before that Pakistan innings, he is sadly most definitely not going to be asked to step aside after it.

Only fans care about his legacy. Kohli himself doesn't give a crap, he just wants to milk the brand machine for as long as possible. If takes a break from intl cricket for 6 months and quietly work in counties/ranji on his game, his form might come back but his brand will take a hit for some time. Guess which one he'd rather lose

As long as fans keep looking at performances in one off matches, or a one-off year or two - instead of long term trends and patterns we'll keep being blessed with reiterations of King Coolie.

There are lots of people who are prepared to accept 0 performances from their favourite superstars as long as they get to see their faces in matches.

Statements like " Form is temporary but class is permanent " have been coined by them for this purpose.

And sponsors utilize this mindset to stand behind these deadweight superstars.

Good if he has to play in test cricket for next 3-4 years then he has to work on his technique from now.

what technique? I only see a glaring lack of it.

and there are enough fanbois on ICF who spout this kind of rubbish, and go into hiding when the inevitable string of failures come
