vvvslaxman Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-news/bcci-shortlists-20-players-for-2023-mens-odi-world-cup/ The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected a list of 20 players for the forthcoming ODI World Cup scheduled to be held later this year in India. The decision was made at the board’s Annual General Meeting on Sunday to finalise a balanced 15-member squad for the marquee event. It is also understood that the selected list of players will be rotated in the bilateral series so that the squad will take up one after the other to ensure proper preparations are underway for the event. The meeting was helmed by BCCI president Roger Binny, who attended it through video conferencing while skipper Rohit Sharma, chief selector Chetan Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid, and NCA head VVS Laxman brainstormed for hours in a Mumbai hotel before coming up with the final list. "It was a very constructive and fruitful meeting where we have reviewed the past performance and planned for the future events, including World Cup and World Test Championship (WTC). We will give preference for international cricket while making sure the IPL is not diluted," a BCCI source, who attended the meeting was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. "The issues of player availability, workload management, and fitness parameters were also discussed at length during the meeting along with the roadmap to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023," the source added. Yo-Yo and Dexa tests made mandatory for selection: BCCI Following India's lackluster performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the Asia Cup 2022, the management has already begun ideating plans for the mega event and the World Test Championship (WTC) this year. BCCI's top brass have analyzed and stated that the ‘Yo-Yo’ and ‘Dexa’ tests will mandatorily be a part of the selection in order to maintain high fitness standards. "The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players," the BCCI said in a statement after the meeting. The think tank clearly wants to ensure that the side makes proper preparation if they are to get back the glory days. It is worth mentioning that team India is in contention for a spot in the finals of the WTC which will take place post-IPL. tweaker 1
vvvslaxman Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 We are discussing about yoyo test in another thread. What about the 20 short listed players? Who are they? Why did they short list so early? What if we find new talents in 2023 IPL?

vvvslaxman Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 That sick boy Chahal is still in the scheme of things.
Nash Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Interesting picks. No Jadeja ? Why akshar is preferred ?

zen Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 With likes of Rohit in the squad (and that too as a captain), it would need a "miracle" (where many of the players are in their best form) to win a WC. Most likely a loss in SF. Vijy and Bigg Brother 2

Vijy Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) my rating of the 20 chosen by the BCCI. the ones in bold are those that I deem problematic for one or more reasons (can be cricketing or non-cricketing like injuries) Rohit --> fatman (not hitman) is clearly over the hill and unfit; moreover, serious issues vs left-arm pace Kishan (WK) --> explosive player; I like him, but I think teams can restrict his scoring areas Kohli --> not at his peak; moreover, displaying issues vs left-arm spinners and certain pacers S Iyer --> should be an excellent fit for SC KL Rahul (WK) --> it's kela, do I need to say more? troglodyte in human form who goes completely missing under pressure. weak, wimpy, spineless loser H Pandya --> needs to bat at no. 5 since he is not the explosive hitter he once was; will be valuable in SC if he is at full fitness R Jadeja --> not quick enough scorer at no. 7/8, and not penetrative enough with ball. injury prone as well. K Yadav --> TM destroying his confidence. when in song, can be a genuine wicket taker, but does bowl too many boundary balls in ODIs. M Shami --> starting to decline. still a wicket-taking force, but that zip and pace is not there. J Bumrah --> too injury-prone these days. may not be at full fitness. also has a worrying tendency to go missing in big matches. M Siraj --> has impressed as ODI pacer, but he can lose his line-and-length. also injury prone. W Sundar --> can be a clutch player if given proper run. can bowl full 10 overs often and score valuable runs in middle-order. Axar --> too one-dimensional in ODIs. scores quickly, but is inconsistent. and bowling is quite mundane Y Chahal --> has got a decent ODI record, but somehow I never find him convincing enough. also can't field and can't bat at all Gill --> still think he is better suited for no. 3, where he can anchor innings. Pant (WK) --> if he is back by WC, I don't think he will be at full fitness. Samson (WK) --> has impressed me unexpectedly. played quite coolly in MO, and can hit both pace & spin S Thakur --> batting has regressed, and so has bowling. will take wickets, but will be very expensive. D Chahar --> too injury prone. batting is solid, but bowling offers little beyond PP. U Malik --> genuine talent, but raw. needs to be protected from bowling at death @express bowling@Mosher@Suhaan@raki05@SRT100@speedracer@zen Edited January 2, 2023 by Vijy raki05, SRT100, Mosher and 3 others 2 4

Gollum Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 If we want to at least reach SF, these oldies must be discarded forever....Dhawan, Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja, Shami, Bhuvi, Ashwin, DK. But don't think Bumrah can be called too injury prone yet. Mid 2016, late 2019 and mid 2022 ... these are the timelines of his 3 injuries. Pretty normal for a quick in a 7 year long career. In 2022, he was brought back too early from injury, to cover up a weak pace attack, which is why he is taking time to heal. Edited January 2, 2023 by express bowling SRT100 and Vijy 1 1

DK will be recalled to the ODI side, nothing can be more surer given the injury to Pant. Will be interesting if a failure in 2023 ODI WC will lead to changes before the next T20 WC.
jusarrived Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 am sure 10 of the 20 will be useless. I skipped the T20 WC completely and most likely will miss this one as well. Zero interest in Indian team Vijy 1

eulbninem Posted January 2, 2023 Posted January 2, 2023 Don't know if it's the same outside of Asia, but in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh these stars always become bigger than the sport. No one can go against them. In WT20, if there were some younger players there instead of the top 3 who knows what would've happened. They'd have played with alot more freedom. But who'd dare make that decision. Kohli using his star status managed to get Kumble thrown out of the coaching role. Kumble never said a word. To me, that's class. Gambhir may come across as bitter sometimes but he did say once that you don’t grow unless if there are disagreements. Kohli just got yes man Shastri in there. To go on Aapki Adalat and say main Virat Kohli pe fida hoon Imagine if Lehmann had said that about Clarke or Langer about Paine. So cringe. Shastri sounded like a high school girl who dreamt of having Kohli's kids. Kohli used to be an amazing batsman but some of the decisions he made as a captain didn't make sense. His constant chopping and changing all the time.....some of the decisions he made after the toss in big matches...but it was all good coz it's Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma may have a collection of IPL trophies but seems like a lot of that is to do with the support staff. Whoever has seen that Netflix documentary called cricket fever will know that he never says a word during the team meetings. It's mainly Mahela leading them. Don't think IPL is a good way to judge who'll be a good captain. express bowling and Stan AF 2
