Honest trier. Relies on batsmen losing patience and making mistakes. Long way to go before being dangerous in tests. Can hold one end up and support/relieve Bumrah/Siraj. That's it.

Will be dangerous if:

Match is in England AND there is grass on the pitch AND it is cloudy AND India wins toss AND chooses bowling AND he gets the new ball.  And that comes around once every 10 - 15 years.

we have better bowlers for this kind of stuff. even current (i.e., low fitness) boobie would be better

what are these certain conditions? there's hardly any, except for maybe SA (NZ and Eng pitches are getting flatter)

130-135 kph gets wickets in England. It's been true even in this Ashes.

Problem is not just his bowling, it is his batting too. If he is number 11 when you have Siraj, it just shows how one dimesional he is as a cricketer.

India has too many number 11s and none of them are Mcgraths.Any lineup can accommodate only one number 11 even if he is  Mcgrath.

It gets wickets in India on those cold, winter mornings which is why he is  around the team for a year now in all formats.

Both Unadkat and Kumar donot cuts as no.3 bowler, that adds pressure on Siraj.

They are going to get Siraj injured as well.

Kumar came from nowhere into Ind team, does not boast a v.good Domestic record not had a break-out season, not sure how he got into the team and in all formats.

Since Dravid and Rohit tookover  the bowling  and selection of bowlers has been going down hill

Even Bumrah and Shami took a long time to make it to the Indian squad in all 3 formats ... and Shami is usually left out from thd shorter formats.

But Mukesh Kumar made it all 3 format Indian squads before he played a single game for India and despite having poor IPL and List A stats.

Ideally Prasidh should also go.

My theory of bowler selection for the Indian team is simple.  First, avoid whenever possible, selecting a bowler by the surname Kumar. It’s an ordinary name, without the weft and weight an accomplished bowler should possess. Kumar? Kumar?  If his parents put such little thought in choosing their surname, how much of an effort is the lad himself making in his bowling, you wonder.  Remember Praveen Kumar?

The more complicated or multisyllabic the name, the better that bowler is going to be.  Hence Bhuvneshwar Kumar was a better choice (if such a choice were to be made) than the syllable - deprived, and pace deprived, Mukesh Kumar.  As per my theory, had his parents named him Mukararaladbadavhalchittlralal Kumaramangalam, he probably would have had fifty Test wickets by now.

Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, Erapalli Prasanna, Venkataraghavan.  Such magnificent, syllable rich worthies who set a glorious tradition followed by Ravichander Ashwin.  With a name like that you knew he had to succeed.  Anil was saved by his unusual surname, Kumble.  And the ostensibly simply named Kapil was actually Nikhanj, hence clearly destined for greatness. And if you’re named Javagal or Zaheer or Venkatesh, these somewhat more unusual names predict you’re going to do well.

Look at the magnificently named Jasprit Bumrah, or Mohammed Siraj.  They may lack a few syllables compared to others, but their names stand out.  I mean to have Bumrah or Siraj or Shami as a surname requires incredible foresight, you know these boys were born to bowl for India. Basis that, I now have high hopes for Prasidh.

Of course based on my theory Jaydev Unadkat should have had 500 wickets by now, but I feel that it’s the fault of the selectors, who should have paid more attention to the name.  And given him at least 200 games.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. Do not bother to reply if your name doesn’t have at least three syllables.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is my name, so I guess I can reply to your insightful post

Even Shashi Tharoor will need 2-3 attempts to fully pronounce this name.

'Like For Like Replacement' for Boobie.  One Kumar replacing another.     Both these Kumars are the fastest spinners in world cricket at the moment.

Bcci has got something right.  :two_thumbs_up:
