Even conventional spinners were impacted except the best ones like Zampa, Kuldeep.

Look at last 3 years records. Jaddu is worse than Maxwell, Markarm in terms of average

This is why Jadeja at 7 is an absolute waste. Spinners are overrated in this format, and massively.  Even Kuldeep is not all that because he can't score runs to save his life.

It's why someone like Bracewell is much superior to Jadeja. He has an economy of 5.44 compared to Jaddu's 5.24  but offers much more value overall because he's a terrific ball striker and adds real batting depth.

Part time spinners may be getting hit a lot more compared to the pre -2012 era but so are specialist finger spinners - a fact taht is lost on many who support the current balance.

If Tilak Varma can bowl as good as Agha Salman and Iftikhar, he should be tried in that lineup.  We can then ditch both Jaddu and Shardul and get Pandya to bat at 7.   It's 10 times better than playing Jaddu and Shardul at 7 and 8.   Friggin Bumrah outbatted them.

So India needs someone like abhisekh Sharma down the order with his five overs, looks a proper spinner and can bat anyway, all these t20s we had against Sri, wi and we didn't really try out any players bar Tilak, the issue is our players don't improve after a certain time, sai Kishore should be considered if Kuldeep carrys on being rubbish.

I say open with him push Rohit down the order.

Specialist batsman also need to take responsibilities, not just all rounders.

Hardik has proved his worth in LOs and Jadeja will contribute as well especially considering we have Asia Cup and then World Cup in India and his batting is safe, it is on team management how to utilise it.

Question is can we expect tough runs from specialist batsman? Rohit, Gill, Kohli, S Iyer, Rahul and Kishan- these guys need to score tough runs also without counting the runs they score vs Nepal, Hong Kong, Ireland etc.

And that is the issue, he is coming in at 7, usually teams need quick runs & power game from a guy who comes in at that position. Jaddu is best able to stick around if we have Pandya or some other batter. All these years he has not developed his power game or ability to play around with our tail, the latter may be mission impossible even for the best of best.

Even Pandya usually needs some time before he starts to hit.

May sound a bit weird, I feel out of all the players down the order, Shami and Bumrah are the best bets for quick 30(12) kind of knocks.:giggle:

He has the technique of a top 4 batter and can play a very very good second fiddle to more dynamic batters. Amazing how this was never looked at by our phattu TM all this time..

This may have been true at some point in the past and it is what should have been done around 2015 if TM were so sure of him as an LOI cricketer.  He has only ever batted twice at #4 and it was not impressive.

Currently, he eats up way too many deliveries even for a number 4. Jadeja is a pathetic starter against spin.

His selection is purely based on T20 stats.  In the last 2 years, he averages 35 and strikes at 154 against pace bowling. So, he's not a bad option at 7 in T20's especially given he has bowled well this IPL.

However, he strikes at 94 against spin so he can't bat in the middle.

He and SKY are the perfect examples as to why you cannot use T20 stats to justify ODI selection.

He has a ridiculous strike rate of 53 against pace in ODI's since 2021  but also a poor strike rate of 73 against spin in ODI's in the same period.

He is not an ODI cricketer at this point and rarely has been for over 10 years but has gotten much worse recently.

People are making too much of Jadeja's so called lack of ability to hit .As if we have lot of very good number 7s waiting in wings to take over his spot and number 8 spot from Thakur.

Jadeja still has place in the squad given matches will be played in India. Dew factor has to be considered in picking playing eleven.
