The biggest difference between 2019 and now....

Recommended Posts

As we look ahead to the semi, the biggest difference is that we don't really have a muddled middle order with 3 keepers like in 2019 with 2 of them being a washed up Dhoni and a useless DK. Indian batting was top 3 or bust then but now there is more hope with the middle order.

There is also an overwhelming feeling that we are the best team in the WC which was very arguable in 2019 (England beat us comfortably in the group stages). Our bowling is clearly much better.

Only area where we lag behind is fielding: Siraj is a big big big liability. Cannot stress this enough. I hope he doesn't end up costing us.

Jadeja was batting at 8 in 2019.. quite a batdeep lineup with bhuvi at 9.. only blunder was playing both dhoni and dk

thats why we made a game of it from 5-3. but pant and dk were too green. should have been dhawan opening, kl at 4 plus some other batsman we developed from 2015-19.

Siraj’s problem is not athleticism in the field. He is extremely quick. His problem is over-enthusiasm and short attention span while fielding. Too emotional. He is one of those guys who will drop dollies but take a blinder out of nowhere.

Perfect summation. He seems very excitable. Let's hope he channels his extra excitement into destroying our opponents' lineup like he did in the Asia Cup final.

That's all BS, the biggest difference is bowling -

Till now the most lethal bowling lineup in a WC ever, leading in S/R, economy & avg overall :om:

The irony of Indian fans is in home conditions everyone looks great. Plus the emergence of a rejuvenated Bumrah and Kuldeep.

Same lineup in England, SA or Australia would have faltered.

The fact that same Rahul, Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja couldn't do squat in Dubai conditions or in Australia tells the full story.

The 2019 team would also have won world cup if it was held in India. Same with 2015 also where we lost a tough game against Australia with rain etc.

It's a shame that fans forget that conditions matter. Pandya's injury is not playing a factor only because of that. Imagine us playing only 5 bowlers in Dubai, England or Australia.

The fact that Bumrah took an 8 month break and got back at his best level is a gift of a lifetime for India. Same thing with Kuldeep.

If we played Ashwin and anyother pacer instead of these 2, wouldnt have been the same result.

Anyway, some captains are very lucky with timing and looks like Rohit and Dhoni have that while Kohli didn't.

May have faltered, we topped the group stage in 2019 as well - the 2 biggest issues there were our new ball bowlers, it's easy to forget that we were the worst team in PP in the WC & just before that as well. This is why playing Shami was key, instead of Bhukhe, in the SF even though Bhukhe lovers will bring up his useless stats when NZ had piled on the runs then he picked cheap wickets in the end! Second was obviously our MO, now admittedly the injuries to Dhawan & Vijay(?) dented us badly but we were accommodating a way over the hill Dhongi for the entire tournament & our plan A/B/C was relying on the top 3 to win any game - this is why I wanted BRat to come down at 4 so that he could stabilize the wobbly MO & kind of bridge it with the Dhawan less top order. Also backing that collar chewer over Kuldeep or even KJa was stupid, & who the * plays 4 WK in a semi final just to hide Dhongi from the moving ball

What do you mean the same lineup  could not do squat in Australia , England or SA.

Do you know , India won most games in league phase in 2019  and in 2015 too???

Even with Bhuvi , India should not lost the semis with two day match where NZ got to enjoy best of both conditions.

Bowling did not help but India's inability to handle the new ball was the downfall along with useless DK and Dhoni.

If they bat second, their ability to handle new ball will dictate the match result.

India has stopped depending on home conditions long time back in whiteball cricket.

It is the big match temperament and ability to handle pressure which has caused the heart break  in last decade.

Never seen so many tactical errors in a single match in world cup history of India. That was such an average NZ side that was for the taking. We could have easily bullied if we had weathered the 10 over storm.
