Indians just don't care about their safety. After that family got washed out in that waterfall in Maharashtra, I still see people with kids going there.

Modern Babas have also started their own cults. Gurmeet Ram Raheem has his own cult. He is not a Hindu baba. Rampal Baba started his own Kabir panth, Gareeb das panth. This is joke. If you start saying followers of this baba are not hindu that baba are not hindu then Hindu population in India may be just 20-25%. BTW majority of these baba call themselves incarnation of vishnu and shiva and hindu's don't feel offended.

But, for whatever reason, their lives may be in shambles - usually just bad luck resulting in money/relationship/health problems - and whenever someone confidently and charismatically offers false hope, they gravitate towards them.
