Other than Aman Sherawat match tomorrow, any event left for Ind where there is a hint of winning a medal?

None that I know. Most are - well done, better luck next time kind of events. 4x400 would be another interesting one, we can finish 4th or 5th, will be an achievement

Ye.a. they have 100 meter, 50 meter.. India should try in obscure sports wehre there are not many contestants. How about Horse jumping?

Only kangana Ranaut and her  plastic horse can win that one :giggle:

I knew Nadeem would win .Based in potential, he ran Neeraj close in the previous olympics. He has a simple effective action

He threw 86 when barely trying in qualification. I knew there was a risk of beating Chopra then

Among the sports where they could compete. Those sports they stand remote chance.

Think of it this way. They send 5-6 athletes every Olympics. Arshad is a freak of nature, probably the greatest they have ever produced, does his magic.

He is 27, will be 31 by the time LA comes, may be tough to repeat this feat.

For Neeraj too it may be tough in LA. But we will have 30 athletes capable of winning medals on their day, apart from the hockey team. They will once again have all eggs in one basket. Yes we see which one is more sustainable.

Kitne freak of nature hai Javelin mein? Even Neeraj was supposedly that.

As for Nadeem, real story starts now. He'll get all the attention, backing, money but pressure too. Dealing with it will define him.

Don't care about 1 Gold. Would rather be in India' position where we can win 15 medals realistically than having one potential medalist relying on having a good day.

Indian athletes  huffing puffing for multiple Bronze medals while someone from Bankrupt  Pakistan wins Gold and Pakistan races ahead of India in medal table in 30 minutes... this is epic for Pakistan more than all Cricket World Cup defeats against India combined..Nothing comes close, forget all World Cup victories and Mohali, Melbourne. Now Pakistan can brag about not caring about Cricket/World Cup since Olympics is the real deal and their man denied Gold to an Indian who was guaranteed winner otherwise.

We hv to give credit to Arshad here.  These things happen once in a blue moon.   Right now, Pak's standing is higher than not only Ind but also many other countries whose GDP per capita is almost 10-15  times higher. (Viz: Mexico, Turkey, Portugal & some others)  LOL.    Vinesh Pogbhat was a sure shot gold/silver contender. If not for bad luck, our ranking would hv been somewhere in 40-50 range.

thing is India is this close to becoming a 25 medals, 6-8 golds team.

give it 12 years.

no one will compare Ind cricket or sports/Olympics ever again. They might still have a freak who wins from time to time but we will have multiple.

life is long, many more Olympics/cricket etc to come.

Now Bollywood should make movie on Nadeem. In the end Neeraj sacrifice his medal for Nadeem. Aamir Khan as Arshad Nadeem , Akshay Kumar as Neeraj Chopra.

They are both too short. Aamir khan is a midget compared to Nadeem.

It's more in Northern part of the country as majority of people have links to partition. Talk to almost any Punjabi in Delhi and they'll have a family story about partition.

Plus Kargil war, attack on Indian parliament, 26/11 and giving refuge to Dawood Ibrahim don't exactly endear Indians to Pakistan.

It’s everywhere dude. Lot of cretins. I grew up in Mumbai but I am from Andhra, I used to play with some M kids on the street during vacation, very nice folk to me but they used to support Pak in India-Pak matches. Never knew what to make of that. And this was in the south of India and in fact my Hindi/Urdu for what it’s worth was way better than theirs.

Last olympics increased the expectations of Indian fans. That is why more disappointment this time than the result of olympics before 2020. Now that we have a reality check we will have lesser expectations in the next one.

Only Anderson Peters and Nadeem.

Neeraj, Valdech and Weber are consistent but not capable of producing monster throws.

no because pakistani squash has become really bad.

they lose to india on an asian level and india team itself is poor. plus ofc the eternal handicap, no women's/mixed teams.

Yeah but we got Hamza Khan on the come up, he won the world juniors title last year. Also after Egypt, Pakistan is the only country to have a rich heritage in the sport, perhaps England comes close.

I watched the full hockey final, including shootouts. Switched to javelin after that finished, missed initial throws.

I'll be honest. This was the first time in my life where I watched a major hockey final (Olympics/WC) and felt that India can beat either of the finalists, that we are on the same level. When I watched the Tokyo final or last WC final I though those top 2 teams play at a level which we can never come close to. Even in Rio final, I thought we could beat Argentina (we actually beat them in group stage back then), but not Belgium.

Then Neeraj does his thing, consistency is his forte and even on a bad day he can maintain 87+....others on their bad days struggle to cross 80. He performed at his usual level and now we can forget that firangi Norman Pritchard forever. Look at Neeraj's consistency, guys like Vetter, Anderson Peters, Arshad may have higher peaks.....they are like Wawrinka, but our guys is Djokovic, the man to beat in every major competition.

Sleep well folks, today was one of the best days of these Games, 21 yo kid Aman has also put himself in a position to win bronze.
