No batsman has done that in their 200 FC matches in last 50 years.

Which quality bowler of his era Tendulkar didn't face? Some of the greatest fast bowlers you can count Donald, ambrose, walsh, steyn, akram, McGrath, Akhtar, gillespie, pollock. Greatest spinners warne, murli. Which one of them he didn't face? Root has faced bumrah, rabada, steyn, Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc.

I can do the same mental gymnastics for Root. Whats the point of him facing better Aussies attacks when he failed to score a single 100 in Australia against that better attack? How is his failure being shown as some good thing?

I think it is inevitable he gets the record.   

 

The Australian 100 is the more interesting milestone atm.

 

2 low scores in this test, next test could be tough to score runs at certain times as it is a D/N test.   

 

If England go 2-0 down with 3 to play and he has not got his century, there will be undue pressure on him.
