Fast bowling all rounder for Test

Preferably a swing bowling all rounder. He doesn't have to be express. Just a bowler who can nibble around in helpful conditions.  We were definitely short of a seamer in the first Test.To compound the issue we went with three spinners where you probably needed 4 seamers.  Similar helpful conditions first WTC final. Once again we went with 3 seamers.  To avoid this India has to encourage guys like Raj Bawa or anyone who is with slight potential. India contineus struggling to get the balance right. WC final black soil pitch, slow turner we went with 3 seamers. Now here we are . Overcast conditions with no chance of pitch breaking up. We go with 3 spinners. Only way we get away with these blunders is by covering all the bases. SOmeone like Irfan would be such a handy player in the current set up .

Deepak Chahar

Shardul Thakur

Nitish Reddy

Venkatesh Iyer

Arshin  Kulkarni

Now Nitish is in front as the team management has backed him

He can be the fourth seamer in helpful conditions and he is technically good batsman

After winning the toss in overcast conditions in second ICC finals, Indians went with four seamers, people were talking about Ashwin then.

Two seamers if effective would have been enough to limit the damage in first innings or take more wickets in second.

LOL.  Some posters suggesting D Chahar for tests. :phehe:. The guy barely has the stamina/fitness to last 4 overs of trundling in a t20 match.  Got injured after trundling 2 overs in an ODI against Toygers. That cost us the match & the series eventually.   At best, he could be considered for T20 as a backup if Pandya & N Reddy both are unavailable.

Ever since we had Kapil Dev, we have been on this search for a fast bowler who can bat. We have not found one.

All the capable pace bowlers since Kapil Dev were hardly useful as batsmen - but they did bowl well. Srinath, Zaheer, Ishant, Shami, Umesh and of course Bumrah.

The two who decided to focus on batting completely lost their ability to bowl with any pace and take wickets. One was Irfan Pathan and another to lesser extent was Shardul Thakur.

Basically fast bowling is a full time job.

The all rounders don't have to lead the attack. They can be 2nd change bowlers like Stokes. Even Kallis was a second change bowler. But they have to be more a batsman with swing bowling skills. Even 125 to 130k would do in thsoe conditions.

bit of t20 slogging doesn't magically make him a test allrounder.

Batting is just a bonus but he had the ability to pick bucketload of wickets with the new ball if it is doing a lot. Just that IPL and T20 got prioritised because the money he got was just far too many to bother him about anything else.

3D Shankar. Can actually bat and can be a handy bowler in helpful conditions.

We would like  Mitch Marsh, CDG kind of players. Neither of them as individual bowlers are not going to do much. But they can usefully chip in.

Currently :

Unfortunately Shardul Thakur may pip others..unless Reddy performs well in A tours..

However, I would like to combine forces of Harshit Rana + Akashdeep + Jadeja\Ashwin\Sundar..to provide some batting depth..so we dont sacrifice our bowling option..

I wont trust Deepak Chahar's fitness for Tests

Future wise:

Groom them--BCCI need to Pass the message to State teams..this need to be taken on priority

Raj Bawa(pure AR)

Nitish Reddy(batting AR for now)

Harshit Rana(bowling AR)

Raj Hangarekar?(needs lot of improvement)

Gurnoor Brar,Mohsin Khan(can they bat?..probably)

I know he may not be test class but the closest we have is Baroda's Atit Sheth. It's a travesty he didn't get a look in for any Duleep team.

Harshit should have been in the A squad. He should be in Australia and not with the T20 team in SA

Harshit should be there. If Siraj brings nothing to the table let us move on with Harshit

He would have been a decent option to try circa 2019-2020. He has massively regressed, doesn't even play often for Tamil Nadu these days.

There are quite a few but not sure any of these guys are willing to focus on Test Cricket.

In terms of potential it is between Bawa and Rana. Some are clearly old news or not interested in Tests. Tendulkar interesting as left armer.

Raj Bawa

Deepak Chahar

Shardul Thakur

Nitesh Reddy

Arjun Tendulkar

Venky Iyer

Hardik Pandya

Harshit Rana

Vijay Shanker

Jaydev Unadkat.

Left armer and can tonk it. Plus winning mentality and a team player - see below.

Win win.

Quote

India seamer Jaydev Unadkat has signed a new two-year deal with Sussex for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. The 32-year-old played the final five County Championship matches this year and helped Sussex win the Division Two title.

Unadkat took 22 wickets at an average of just 14.4 in 2024, and 15 in three games the previous season.

Head coach Farbrace said everyone at the club is "pleased and excited" Unadkat has extended his stay. "Jaydev’s quality on the pitch has been so evident for everyone to see, but just as importantly his qualities as a person make him one of the most popular and nicest guys any team could wish for," Farbrace said.
