Zero_Unit Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Am a big believer of if a x person is not a team player, no matter how good you are, if you are causing disruption, no need for that person in that team. A team has to function as a unit, this isn't an individual game. Raiyudu always gave me expression of that kind of a player. Now if this was the reason behind his exclusion, am all for it. If not, that's another issue all together Ultimate_Game 1

Even a S-tier player like Shakib was dropped for his crappy performance for the upcoming CT, yet we will carry him and fatty patty to CT and play them in the playing XL. They were S-tier players at one point, today, more like grade C players at best. Age caught up, time to hang up the boots. Ultimate_Game 1

Gollum Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 (edited) Rayudu could have saved us in that SF, he is built for such situations, a 40(80) at number 4 that day was all we needed after the horror start. Instead we sent fidgety, mental case DK Heck, Shankar could have been useful that day, but was out injured. He had a good record against NZ, including NZ A (many bowlers who went on to become NZ mainstay), and both him and Rayudu were instrumental in our 4-1 series win in NZ a few months prior. I have always felt that Shankar was a big miss in our 2020 NZ tour. Kohli did many good things as test captain but in white ball, he was clueless. Seems like virat Kohli was really poor in communication and having strategy. @putrevus @Adamant Kohli was never a good LOI captain, Dhoni was playing it would have been better if he remained captain. BTW, Rayudu was a limited batsman, also these days it looks like Uthappa has joined Rohit's PR team, not sure if this helps Rohit in any way though, he is gone from the test set up. Lord 1

Gollum Posted January 14, 2025 Posted January 14, 2025 Just now, Adamant said: Karthik was the worst selection, lol. Rayudu would have done better than him. Despite his selection (totally undeserved), DK could have been better utilized at number 7 or 8. As a finisher there was at least a 10-20% chance of him winning us that game if we needed say 60 in the last 6 overs, like Uthappa did once in an ODI in England (2007). But at 5/3, completely useless. Dhoni should have walked in at that time, he had an effective style for countering swing in English conditions, would have gladly taken his tuk tuk after the top order collapse. But our most experienced player, so called legend and ODI GOAT contender, was hiding behind newbies Pandya and Pant. I know that we had bad luck in that match, with pitch/conditions changing nature on second day, Kohli LBW (no way that should be given out by onfield umpire), NZ batsmen getting so many umpire's calls in their favor etc. But our decision making was horrendous that game, right from selection (just one change, imagine Shami in place of Chahal) to batting order. rollingstoned, Ultimate_Game, sage and 3 others 3 3

But did well in that NZ ODI series. Some players defy logic and overperform against certain opponents. Shami too has a stellar record against NZ in white ball, while Bumrah is a non-factor against them.

Did you forget who brought RGS back in the team? It was, of course, BRat, who always favored RGS/thigh slapper over test specialists Rahane/Pujara & KL when he was doing well in 2016/17 so I'm not sure why the * he is he given so much credit for creating a "fast bowling" culture Do you also give credit to Ponting for having/making the best ODI team ever? He was just at the right place & time, although his performances were great in that time, but it was the team that he had, which was unbeatable for the most part Brat was responsible for changing the test side 35-37 times in a row; you can't *ing tell me this guy knew how to build a team Ultimate_Game 1

I was casually looking at Reddit and saw Kohli PR in full force. I mentioned Kohli can only play drive and no backfoot shots they were multiple people to defend him. Once mentioned his contributions and IPL championship wins they all went silent. Ultimate_Game 1
