Abhishek Sharma - what a breath of fresh air!

In an age where we were being fed with "sheet anchor", "carrying the innings through" quotes and players who were more interested in playing long but less impactful innings like Kohli and KL Rahul, it is so refreshing to see a young player going for his shots right from the word go.

He is unafraid and plays in an uncomplicated manner. If the ball is there to be hit, it must be hit. I hope he continues in the same vein. He is definitely going to have failures with such an approach but you need a few players in a T20 team who just believe in going after the bowling.

Lets hope he's not 'fast tracked' onto tests and that will ruin his mindset for playing to his strenghts

Exactly. Each format should have its own team. No point in trying him in other formats unless he improves his FC or List A records.

Abhishek has this boom or bust game, there will be instances where he will fail as well.

That's where our commentators are in general fans will have to keep faith. He is there for quick starts and not to score hundreds for stats.

Selfless players are the need of the hour.

His game is like that he will score 15-20 runs even on a bad day.

Was waiting for this fearless, non-stats padding mindset from an Indian batter after Sehwag and Pant.

Ability is there too.

My biggest happiness is that he can hit 145 k+ pacers with confidence and ease.

There's a reason he went tot to toe with Travis Head in the last IPL. He actually had a higher SR than Head quite a few times. And yet we didn't back him sooner.

And we had Kohli fanboys like @putrevus taking shots at him when he failed in his debut match. Abhishek and Jaiswal need to be the opening pair in T20s. We need high impact players and not "consolidators" at the top.

Please bump that thread :p:

I'd say some of Head's mentality rubbed off on him.

We're still one batting option short. Shami is batting too high. Need to bring in someone like Parag in place of a specialist bowler. We'll struggle in WT20 with lack of depth in batting.

Shami is at 9. We'll have Bumrah,Arshdeep and Varun/Kuldeep at 9-11 anyway

IMO to play the kind of cricket we're trying to, need to replace Bishnoi with Parag. When Bumrah comes in, he can cover a lot of cracks but we can't have someone like Shami walking in with 2-3 overs to go.
