tapandrun Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 (edited) Unpopular opinion but this looks a good move by rcb, there is no obvious superstar rt. now in Ind cricket, bcci tried everything to make t20 stars out of kl, gill and pant but failed so much so that after investing so much so in them they can not even find a place in t20i side. So rcb can wait for 3 yrs now with rajat as captain and as soon as some of these younger player becomes a stars and is available and needs captaincy they can replace rajat anytime without much hassle and resistance from fan. good stop-gap arrangement. Its better to have some local player to pretend as captain/leader when real captain/leader is kolhi than having an os player do that job which can go sideways anytime in any podcast or interview. on rajat he has played 27 ipl matches he has 7 fifties and 1 ton, he would be one of few (5 imo) ind fringe player who has v.high impact for his IPL side when included in the team, plays match winnings innings for his side. playing him in test was not a good idea, he is a white-ball t20 player give him chance there though not sure of his intnl quality but deserves a chance. There are 5/6 Ind fringe batters who have high impact when selected in the ipl playing 11 -- Rahul tripathi, v.iyer, rajat, dube, ruturaj 1st three have lifted their teams when they were not doing so well have played match winning innigs, does not get stuck in the crease much. yes their intnl quality can be debated. Patidar probably played one of the few clutch innings in a knockout by any RCB batsmen who otherwise wither away in such games a few yrs ago. I don't remember any by much bigger names who have played for them over the yrs. tapandrun, BacktoCricaddict, singhvivek141 and 1 other 4

Agree, though I am sure RCB might have tried their best to promote Kohli as captain and even in the match posters as well, we will see Kohli face to face with opposition captain. Teams like RCB, CSK aren't able to find and groom a popular young face and hence had to rely on old stalwarts like Kohli & Dhoni while Gaekwad & Patidar being rubber stamp. Even PBKS, DC are suffering from same issue. tapandrun 1

PS: the hospitality box is full of obnoxious wannabes from the Diageo stable. Its quite nauseating there BacktoCricaddict 1

Iyer won though. But give the Punjab team to patidar they wouldn't have made the playoffs. We keep under estimating the importance of ensemble cast of RCB. Lot of them already tasted IPL win. On paper punjab is a very weak team. Loss of Jansen compounded it. cricspirit 1
coffee_rules Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 High praise from the coach Flower: Flower: 'Tremendous respect' for how Patidar remained calm despite all the scrutiny "Captaining RCB is a really tricky job. If I cast my mind back to how poorly I captained when I was his age, I've got tremendous respect for how he's held himself with all that scrutiny, and captained some big players. You can't underestimate the calmness he showed in leading some really big players, a really big franchise, making good decisions out there in the middle under the pressure that RCB players play under. So I've got tons of respect for him. I'm really proud of the way that he's carried himself, and he's been crucial to us doing well." vishalvirsingh 1

Loss of Jansen compounded it. i agree among the IPL Captains...best captain award would go to - Patidar OR Shreyas if i have to decide one, i would consider IYER as a shade better than Patidar. But yes both these guys are really phenomenal captains. Indian selectors should know this by now. i am kind of tempted to make Iyer ODI India Captain after Rohit retires. Our T20 Captain SKY will remain T20 Captain, Tests Gill can manage, and Iyer should manage ODI Captaincy for India.
