Lets look at Gill in similar situations historically. 

I guess the answer to OP's question is a resounding "No". At this stage, we are effectively playing with two batsmen and two bowling allrounders in the batting department.

I suspect the same. I don't see him being clutch. Jaiswal should've been backed instead of Gill and Jaiswal has that "dog" in him. He looks ready for a fight while Gill gives me a KL type of vibe.

Wow some geniuses here are hard to please and always are whinging. India has reached all three major finals of whiteball cricket losing just one match that too in finals in last 18 months with the so called superstars carrying the batting.

 

Gill be just fine now and in future.He played two ICC events, he was coming off dengue in one.He was scoring runs in that semifinal before the injury. He scored 100 in this event, let us see what he can do in finals.

 

If people have unreal and moronic expectations, it is not players fault. 

 

No other team has done it , yet it is all talk and no show for some whingers.We want these superstars who are all talk and no show to play for this team to keep getting them to finals.

Winning titles matters. Aus team of late 90s and 2000s was GOATed not for reaching the finals but for winning trophies. Reaching finals and knockouts is not what defines legacy, winning tournaments and cups does.

 

If you hit a ceiling with certain players you have to make changes to improve. If you're simply sated with reaching knockouts, you'll end up becoming SA of 90s nd 2000s where they were one of the best teams but didn't win anything.

 

Winning matters and if certain players can't get you over the line, better to move away from them. Gill and Kuldeep are in that category right now. They've had enough opportunities and it's time for them to step up. If they can't there're others to take their places.

If bowlers like even Bumrah kept laying eggs what can batsmen do.

Expecting a batter to perform in knockouts and not fail in every big game isn't really "moronic".  If they can't get past the knockout hurdle and can't perform there,  move those players.

 

Bumrah and bowlers have been let down by our batters time and again. Couldn't chast 239 in 2019, put up only 240 on the board in 2023, and Bumrah had to bail the batters out continuously in 2024 WT20. If we had a batting equivalent of Bumrah we probably have 3 ICC trophies over the last decade.

Dude, do you ever clock out from your non stop crying spree? I have read many of your posts from the 2023 World Cup — honestly, it’s almost impressive how you managed to drag every single player for the weirdest, most cooked-up reasons before the tournaments even began. And then, right on cue, you send the whole tournament desperately hunting for a couple of players to scapegoat — just to somehow validate your pre-tournament meltdowns.

 

Now your latest obsessions are Gill and Kuldeep — because, let’s face it, your greatest hits didn’t quite age well. Kohli, the guy you declared ‘finished,’ somehow forgot to retire on your schedule. Rahul, who you swore didn’t belong in the XI, is casually winning matches. Shami, the ‘old man,’ keeps wrecking stumps for fun. Jadeja, who you confidently claimed shouldn’t even play ODIs, is still one of the first names on the team sheet. And Gambhir your personal punching bag is out here actually making good calls, like backing Varun, while you sit there foaming at the mouth.

 

Look I get it, you practically live on ICF, and when you’ve got a daily quota of rage bait to hit you need to keep the negativity flowing. I don’t think of him as someone who can win a match on his own.

He is a senior batsman now having played 54 ODI matches. He did score a 100 in the first match against Bangladesh carrying the team to victory till the winning run. Against Pakistan too he played a decent knock of 40 odd. His recent ODI form is excellent. He is due for another good contribution after not scoring in last two matches ( against Aus and NZ).

Don't look for patterns in small samples. The same person has most number of runs after Raina jn IPL playoffs. His hundred against MI was the one of the most breathtaking playoffs performance. But he sucked at international matches in finals.
