ravishingravi Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Indian cricket will forever be held hostage by prima Donnas. So what if they start failing in 18 months time. That gives next captain 6 months to take over the team ? This is madness. Gollum, nevada, adi B and 2 others 2 3

deepdynamo Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 A 40 year old Rohit will be a big liability in 2027. Maybe give him a farewell series and call it a day. Kohli can play though till 2027.

prudent_kreeda Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 (edited) A lead batsman who is nearly 41 years playing a WC for India will be madness . Where indian cricket will go with that ? Are we so short of good batsmen? I bet even now jaiswal will beat Rohit hands down as a batsmen. Lets not get fooled by his final innings in CT 25. What he is doing now ( quickie 20- 30) will be done by Abhishek too with some more maturity leave alone jaiswal ! Even Virat is expendable by then . It is not good if he picks & chooses when to play, Not good for team development. Both have done enough and its time they go on a high. India should look to phase out Rohit, VK, Jadeja ,Shami ASAP. lemsip Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 (edited) A lot of the responses show that this is a cultural issue. Fans and commentators want senior players to hang on as long as possible. They focus on the past which is great but disregard the inevitable decline of a sportman with age which is guaranteed to catch up with everyone. If you followed cold hard logic for the 2027 WC, there is no way a team with a 40 year old and a 38 year old playing for it has any chance of competing with other countries. So the mission for BCCI has to be to create a younger, fitter and more competitive team starting now that can be skilled, prepared and hungry in 2.5 years time. I don't think it's possible unless these players make way. They are not going to do it voluntarily and the selection panels in India will never act decisively so I think there could be a significant issue with the team just at the time of the 2027 world cup. LordPrabhzy Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Rohits arrogance in saying MKC whoever wants me to retire- abe fat vada pav, the 27 WC in late 2027, that means Rohot has to play for a FULL 3 YEARS before this. He is already unfit but yes he may be scoring runs now but whats the guarantee he will be end of this year or mid 2026. Doesnt it make sense for the replacement to have a full 2 year run in bilateral ODIs before the WC? But no, Indian seniors wanting glorty hunting and chasing trophies rather than whats best for the game Gollum, rollingstoned, nevada and 2 others 2 3

Using that logic, Tendulkar should have hung around till the 2015 and 2019 world cups to being senior leadership to a team that would otherwise be lost. Pakistan is hardly an example to emulate. They were at the time run completely at the whims of a fading Imran and Kudrat ka nizaam worked for them in '92. Unlike Pakistan then, India has a healthy crop of youngsters who are more than capable of picking up the mantle if given a chance. Suhaan 1

Nikhil_cric Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Kohli and Jadeja will be 39, Rohit around 40 years and 7/8 months old and Shami (real age ) also will be 40 + Will be very poor if any of them make it to South Africa. Lord 1
Bigg Brother Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 This was the right time . Their WC obsession is beyond ridiculous.

I am talking about the leadership. Shubman gill exudes a poor body language under stress during knock outs/key matches. He is sadly the vice captain, he is gonna cost India so badly. KL rahul until champions trophy is not regarded as mentally weak. Rishab pant is not labelled responsible /responsible enough for ODI cricket. who is the leader among the current crop of youngsters who can lead and possible take India to title glory in 2027? Sachin as leader is miles below Rohit. I am no rohit fan in terms of his match fitness/work ethic on fitness but he has definetly got leadership skills, ability to handle preassure etc

BCCI is in the pockets of media lobbies who want to mint money on basis of Rohit and Kohli playing. BCCI doesn't care what's good for Team India, all it wants is to rig tournaments so India wins trophies and IPL should benefit from Indian stars popularity which brings in money from media rights.. you see the vicious cycle here?

Rohit too for long time failed in knockouts/must win games. Infact his only tons in KOs are against BD. Sure with experience hes gotten better. But so can others. We don't need to hang on to old unfit player for that reason. As for leadership, captaining this team is lot easier than the 90s team Sachin had, which included fixers lol. rollingstoned and raki05 1 1

I am no rohit fan in terms of his match fitness/work ethic on fitness but he has definetly got leadership skills, ability to handle preassure etc Look at the positives at this CT - KL Rahul -has improved his game with positive play , Iyer - has made big effort to improve his game vs bounce, Kuldeep -Looked really good in finals -when he bowled around mid 80K getting more turn and zip . (Ball to Rachin was superb and had a big impact in the final.) Should look at what they are now, than what they were . Most of the players by that time would be well experienced and leading the team may not a that difficult. BTW why we are discounting Bhumra's captaincy? Even Hardik, Iyer can do the job in case Bhumra is not able to play . No point to hang on Rohit just for captaincy.
