Majestic Posted June 1 Posted June 1 (edited) It’s time for all the ICFers who ever doubted and shown their hatred towards Shreyas Iyer to apologise because he has proved everyone wrong and is arguably one of the best Indian white ball player in current form. In addition, he has been a terrific captain and done superb work with all the IPL teams he played. Edited June 1 by Majestic nevada and The Dark Horse 2

ICF has backed Iyer and some of us have asked him to be the Indian all-format captain. He has the steel and the leadership skills to be the captain of Team India rather than that selfish git Gill who only specializes in throwing his team under the bus. Edited June 1 by Ultimate_Game

We have to be careful about anointing Iyer "all format captain" He has rightly not made the test or T20is squad over the last year. He should make the T20i squad now, yes though it's hard to fit him in the 11 and Should he be white ball captain now.. would say yes Tests is a different story: However he should probably lead an away team A tour before making a test squad. Be interesting to see when he last led in FC cricket

Be interesting to see when he last led in FC cricket Regarding Tests, if Gill can make it averaging 35 and without any captaincy credentials than Iyer deserves it much more. Iyer is a transformed batter since he was dropped and came back into the Indian setup before CT. Iyer was the most consistent batter in CT and the reason we won the trophy. Plus his captaincy credentials and his knack of making his team better cannot be denied with him taking 3 teams to IPL finals in 3 successive years - DC in 2023, KKR in 2024 and PBKS in 2025. And all of them were useless before Iyer took charge and the two which Iyer left are back to being useless. Shows Iyer had a direct impact. Plus Iyer has the steel and shows up in tough situations unlike Gill. It's a no-brainer for me. Iyer over Gill in Tests, and there shouldn't be any doubts about Iyer in white-ball cricket.
vvvslaxman Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Don't know what he does with captaincy. I think he doesn't mess with players much based on his interviews. Not saying he is super sweet with them. He clearly is angry with Shashank even after winning the match. rollingstoned 1

He doesn't show them up in front of the stadium or hog attention the way Kohli or other stars do. Iyer is a player's captain who will call you out in private rather than make a scene for optics. He doesn't seek attention and does best for his team. He doesn't back seniority mindlessly as shown the way he dropped Chahal a few games. Plus he backs youngsters the way he has given Arya and Prabhsimran freedom to bat. Can you imagine likes of Arya, Prabhsimran, Nehal Wadhera, Shashank, Brar blossoming under someone like Kohli? Iyer doesn't compete with his own players and brings them along. He makes the team better and doing best for the team. Any other person in his shoes would've hogged the opening spot or bat at 3 all the time. But Iyer has batted at 4 when needed and made calls for the betterment of the team instead of putting himself before the team the way most of captains have done. His 97 was a statement where he could have easily scored a 100. Can't help think about how Kohli hogged strike just to get to three figuers in recent times. sorak, rollingstoned, cricspirit and 3 others 2 4

No drama, no rhetoric, just does his job, and acts like one of the players in the team instead of acting as the star and center of attention. nevada, bowl_out, Gollum and 1 other 4

Despite looking fit, he is a slow mover even on the boundary line. He has dropped quiet a few catches. This was such an unprofessional run attempt. Ultimate_Game 1
coffee_rules Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Sorry Iyer. Now , return the favor on Tuesday and say sorry to the OP by losing

You are mixing formats, IPL shits and giggle can’t be compared with test cricket. Shreyas has been great in white ball cricket but that does not mean automatic test selection . He needs to make it to the team first let alone being made the captain. Wtf. It was never a call between gill and Shreyas to begin with, its players like Karun Nayar and Sarfaraz Khan who have leapfrogged him in the pecking order. You are also forgetting his central was cancelled due to him taking the piss and not playing first class cricket, along with the now retired maharathis and the discarded Ishan Kishan. Does he even want to play test cricket? BacktoCricaddict 1
Nikhil_cric Posted June 2 Posted June 2 It would be disingenuous. Iyer deserved to be dropped. This version of Shreyas is not what we saw even a year ago. He's playing with a higher backlift and relying on his hand eye and downswing to score. He was hitting 150 kph short balls by Mark Wood to the boundary recently. Credit to him for working on his game and coming back a vastly improved player . But let's not indulge in revisionism for the sake of it. rollingstoned and BacktoCricaddict 2
