BacktoCricaddict Posted June 21, 2025 Posted June 21, 2025 (edited) I didn't watch it live, but saw the multiple replays they showed shortly afterwards. I cringed. I get it. He was a gymnast. He is a free spirit. He is unique. And all that. But, at this stage of his career, he has to wear a little of the "senior" mantle and refrain from such shenanigans. I think his back was worked on after that happened, and he just didn't seem the same. If that somersault caused his back issue and that's why he lost his focus and got out, then it is highly irresponsible. IMO, he is the GOAT India keeper-batsman and match-winner, but sometimes he leaves you scratching your head with his immaturity. Plus don't get me started on the personal batting landmark celebrations. They are mostly OTT and unnecessary. Whether you get out on 99 or 101, your contribution to the team's success is exactly the same. So, save the celebrations for when you win. /rant Edited June 21, 2025 by BacktoCricaddict Lord, Gollum and Number 1 2
Sandz Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 I loved it, crickets primary goal is entertainment and Pant is the biggest entertainer of all; him, Bumrah and Jaiswal are the reasons I watch India play. So let him be, more shenanigans please. Stan AF and Chakdephatte 1 1

singhvivek141 Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 As long as he stays injury free...let him do what he want.
Gollum Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 (edited) Can get injured in an important game or match situation, gymnasts don't do this on slippery grass but on artificial surfaces...grass is a dangerous surface even for sliding or quick change of direction as many tennis players have painfully found out over the years. Lacks the stability, sure-footedness of clay or HC. Even track and field events happen on hard surfaces (concrete, artificial turf), look at Neeraj Chopra's run up, or any event for that matter. Hassan Ali had a generator celebration and sprained his neck doing that, was against Zimbabwe IIRC. Pant's is more dangerous as he is trusting external conditions like quality of the turf, can happen in an ICC final as well, old habits die hard. So many footballers, NFL players have injured themselves with their gymnastic celebrations, mature people keep it simple. Edited June 22, 2025 by Gollum rollingstoned 1

putrevus Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 (edited) I hope Pant remains a child ,that was just unbridled joy after tough couple of series. I loved his celebration. There is nothing senior and junior about it.People need to stop this nitpicking. Edited June 22, 2025 by putrevus

goose Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 it suits him. he’s the most loved player in the world right now especially outside India. I find Gill’s take a bow offensive, however. and yet it suited Warne

kosingh Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 You can stop him from doing it on the field. But he probably still does his gymnastics off the field too. So there is no point trying to stop him.
kosingh Posted June 22, 2025 Posted June 22, 2025 KL Rahul celebrations are more annoying for me: Lord, coffee_rules and sage 2 1

BacktoCricaddict Posted June 22, 2025 Author Posted June 22, 2025 (edited) To clarify: (a) Am not being a prude. He is the first guy I would write into my all-time India XI bar none. My only point is the high risk of injury with the somersault. Especially because he got the physio to come in and work on his back, and it is easy to connect the dots that his somersault tweaked his back. Given his importance to the team, perhaps a little restraint is advisable. (b) Am being a prude, but I cringe at every century celebration - regardless of player. I wish we stopped celebrating individual achievements so much. Edited June 22, 2025 by BacktoCricaddict

I wish we stopped celebrating individual achievements so much. You have to bear in mind these are young guys playing high pressure sport. Pant has recently come through a situation where just being on the field of play was almost unthinkable. In such situations you can understand how adrenalin and emotion takes over and this it happens in other sports too. There are much more important issues to worry about. Milestones are part of the game in cricket. A batsman celebrating a hundred is normal. Pant is actually one of the players who hasn't become obsessed with milestones - see the number of his dismissals in the 90s and his one handed six to get a century !
