Is Ravindra Jadeja a greater test player than Ravi Ashwin and Virat Kohli?

He was there alongside Ashwin, Kohli, Pujara and Shami in contributing to many test wins for India. He is still performing really well even though they all are gone.

 

Where does he stand as a test cricketer for India in last 15 years?

Jadeja is 20 tests behind what Ashwin played but he has played one more game than Ashwin in SENA conditions in Test cricket.

 

Ashwin’s away stats are also helped by decent number of games played in BD, WI, SL. That has helped better his away stats for sure.

In terms of pressure batting both Ashwin and Jadeja are invaluable. They stepped up a lot of time.  Don't want to give a rank to him as each played different roles for the team. Same level as most top players. But let us put this way. if you count match ka mujirms Jadeja will be at the bottom of the list in Tests. Guys like him rarely failed in this format unlike some guys who dropped catches for fun.

Jadeja probably still has another 3-4 years in him. 

 

I could see him average close to 40 with the bat and sub 30 with the ball by the time he's done.

Jadeja is a legend, but here is my unpopular opinion - he should retire after this series. He has nothing more to prove, and will go down as a larger-than-life legend if he does that.

He has cricket left in him. Three things - Hunger, Fitness and Ability are all intact. No need to retire in my view. If he starts losing any of the three, he should retire.

 

He should retire from ODI though. Just tests and IPL.

He is needed in upcoming home series. Given how we lost 0-3, if he retired now I am afraid but we may need PM Modi to indulge in and ask Jadeja to come back and play test cricket.

Next generation of spinners should get a chance and Jadeja can play as a batsman 

 

PS: Kuldeep, Axar, Dubey, Sai Kishore all need some chance

Am speaking from jadejas perspective, not the team's. In the long run, it will benefit the team to bring in a Harsh Dubey or Tanush Kotian while they are still young.

He is unfairly hated because of his white ball returns. He was never an ODI/T20 guy, even now the prospect of him playing 27 WC scares me....over there we need genuine wicket takers like KD, Chakri. 

 

Hate Dhoni for many things but he genuinely backed Jadeja, Ashwin when they didn't have many backers.

Definitely above Virat Kohli. Not sure about Ashwin yet.

Ashwin and Jadeja are our MVP over last 10-15 years. I rate them both equally. All the superstar batters follow later. 

 

Jadeja is the complete test package. Batting, Bowling, Fielding and temperament for test cricket.  People like Manju who called him bits and pieces are Idiots. Freaking 330 wickets at 24 is already great stuff. Rest bonus. Rarely a bowler is good everywhere or a batter good everywhere. Everyone has their weakness in technicality and stats. 

 

If Jadeja was a SENA player he would get lot more respect. He has maintained his Top all rounder rating in tests for over a decade. He is consistently 1-2 over bulk of his career.

One of the main reason for white wash also when both of them failed with bat. It underlines how important they were for home series. Kohli piggy backed on them and is chest thumping about his test w/l ratio

Remember Jadeja interview when he said,  " I cant believe we lost the series at home, I never imagined this". He was hurting while the batting stars and Captain were being shameless. Even in that series Jadeja mostly under performed and did not vanish. He top scored for India in 2nd test and took 10 wickets in 3rd test..  Batting was a disaster. 

The NZ series hurt me the most out of all our losses this decade and close to the World cup final loss.

Our selectors can't seperate formats. It has hurt both our team and legacy of players like Jaddu. There is nothing wrong in being good in one format
