Went on to sink our 2015 and 19 WC campaigns.....was passenger in all WT20s and CTs. Less we talk about tests, the better. I am not joking when I say that with Saha in our T20 team, we would have won one more WT20 in the 2010s....that could have killed 2 birds (opener Rahane, Thala) with one stone. That feels unfair to him. He took over Indian white-ball cricket right after the 2007 World Cup exit, which was one of the lowest points for us. The recovery from the Greg Chappell era really began with the 2007 T20 World Cup. Yuvraj, Gambhir, and the bowlers were crucial, but Dhoni’s captaincy mattered too. Then came the 2008 CB Series win, another big step. In Tests, he led us to the number one ranking in 2009, and that all format captain journey culminated with the 2011 World Cup win at home. Those first three or four years under Dhoni were a golden stretch, both for the team and for fans. But then the mix of his closeness with Srinivasan, Srinivasan’s iron grip on the BCCI, and Dhoni’s portrayal as the undisputed king of Indian cricket changed the equation and it was all downhill for him - 0-8 in Eng and Aug, unceremoniously ousting Sehwag and Gambhir, sudden exit from captaincy mid-tour, the 2015 and 2019 WC disasters. 2013 CT win and IPL was the only solace for him in those years. I was a big fan of Dhoni till 2011 WC. But what he did after that negates whatever good he did for Indian cricket, no checks and balances either. Ultimately, power corrupts even the finest of men, one person should never have absolute power, be it cricket or politics. We in India especially have to be more careful because we have this habit of blind hero worship, making an individual bigger than the system, cult of personality etc. PS: Btw nice to see you posting more regularly these days. New guy Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 BTW, good news for all true cricket fans, Srinivasan is back as CSK director and will be advising CSK from this season. This might also be the reason why there is talk of dhoni coming back to power in Indian cricket https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/n-srinivasan-and-rupa-gurunath-set-to-be-chennai-super-kings-directors-1501314

He had a great career, world champion and key player for a long time, but feels like it should have been so much more. Irfan was a likeable player but every time he used to bowl you knew opposition was getting easy runs. His decline was rapid, if i remember correctly he also had a back injury.
pkmmamks Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 Dude smoked up and played the 2019 and 2015 SF. That explains everything Stan AF 1
BacktoCricaddict Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 Why should we believe these rumors? Not taking sides, but there's so much crap coming from so many people with axes to grind, so it would be good take a step back and ask "why should I believe this?" "Where is the evidence?" "What if it is not true?"

For a long time in ODIs he was very good new ball bowler

Pathan is narrating his experience. Do you expect players to walk around with cameras all the time to record all interactions to share with you? What kind of proof is expected in such a situation? Since you are claiming he is lying, what is your corroboration on it? GoldenSun 1
