Tillu Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 The Australia A camp has been hit with a health scare in the ongoing unofficial ODI series in Kanpur. As many as four players, including skipper Jack Edwards were diagnosed with stomach infection. Ahead of the series decider, pacer Henry Thornton was admitted to Regency Hospital as he was the worst affected by the stomach infection. Thornton's three teammates were discharged after routine medical tests and medication. As per the sources, Australian team blames food at the hotel for stomach infection. However, the hospital and the team management have not confirmed it. As per Australian team's local manager, Thornton showed symptoms of a severe infection and was kept under observation. He was discharged ahead of the third and last game of the series. Australian team’s reaction to health scares To avoid any further issues, the Australian team management tweaked the players' diet plan. It has led to a change in training routines as well. In addition, a medical unit has advised players to do away with the local food and water on temporary basis. 28-year-old Thornton was in good form in the unofficial Test series. He picked up a four-wicket haul, including the scalps of Narayan Jagadeesan, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel, all part of the current Test squad. No issue with food served to Australians? Following the incident, the food department collected samples from the hotel kitchen. Upon testing, the results showed no contamination in the food served to the Australian. Responding to the accusations, the hotel management said that players have fallen ill due to changes in weather conditions, not the food. BCCI Vice President’s reaction on matter The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla was of similar opinion. "The hotel in question is among the best in Kanpur. If the food was the cause, then all players would have been affected. It's something that still needs to be looked into carefully," he said. TheSportsTak Lord 1
Popular Post Gollum Posted October 5, 2025 Popular Post Posted October 5, 2025 A chomu like Shukla can only make excuses to save himself. Kanpur hosts games only because of him, should have been banned last year for having such a pathetic outfield, drainage facilities were so bad that they couldn't ready the ground despite 36 hours of no rain.. In the Dehradun NZ-Afg test last year, water from toilet was being used to clean utensils by the catering staff. India is a filthy country, no civic sense, worst sanitation in the world. deepdynamo Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Kanpur, the guthka capital of India, should be banned to host any cricket match. Let these kanpuriya stain their city red with guthka and pan stain and be proud of their filthiness. Master_better, Tillu, Gollum and 1 other 3 1

putrevus Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 This is horrible, instead of saying we are sorry this happened, these guys are giving excuses to save their behind. Being best hotel in Kanpur means nothing, what kind of an answer is that, these guys have to be held accountable.
pkmmamks Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Bhai Olympics bid ki to baj gayee. Kyun khela Asia cup
singhvivek141 Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Why they are still giving matches to Kanpur ? That city is gone, Lucknow has moved ahead leaps and bounds, we have much better stadium as well with facilities. Hosting an IPL team so obviously professionalism will be at top level. In future, kindly reserve such treatment for Kanglus, given them matches in Kanpur, Gadhchiroli, Mirzapur etc type places. raki05 1

Mariyam Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Had been to Kanpur a decade and a half ago to attend a wedding. While the wedding and related functions were a whole lot of fun, Kanpur as a city leaves much to be desired. The air always smells strange because of all those Leather tanneries. Burns the eye. Lucknow is not much better. Gomti nagar/New Lucknow is markedly better. The rest of it is just like Kanpur. The two cities are not that far away from each other.
Gollum Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 (edited) Had a horrible experience in Kanpur some 10 years back, absolutely filthy, especially the railway station. Doubt there is any improvement. No visiting team should be tortured like this...imagine coming from Melbourne and Adelaide to this garbage dump. Gollum Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Even if we become a middle income country some day, with HDI at par with today's Malaysia, doubt civic sense will improve, some things are too ingrained in the system. Seen so many videos from sub Saharan Africa and they look so much cleaner than even the better off parts of India. Poor but nowhere as filthy as India. Even our kids have no civic sense, they too litter like our gen.
Trichromatic Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Quote He added that the issues might have arisen due to the logistical challenges in Kanpur. "The issue arises because there aren't many hotels. We need 300 rooms in a five-star hotel, and that's not available. There is no international airport in the area that operates 24/7. Had better arrangements been in place, they would have gained an advantage." https://www.indiatvnews.com/sports/cricket/australia-a-player-hospitalised-with-food-poisoning-after-eating-in-kanpur-bcci-responds-2025-10-05-1011444 If there are issues, then why organize matches in the city.
Trichromatic Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Quote "If there had been an issue with the food, all players, including the Indian players, would have fallen sick. It must have been something else. They are being fed food from one of the finest hotels, Hotel Landmark; the food is good, and everyone is eating the same. Since a few players have fallen ill, they may have contracted an infection, and we are handling it," Shukla was quoted as saying by IANS. Shukla shouldn't be making comments like this. He can say that wait for reports before jumping to conclusion. But he also jumped to the conclusion that since others are fine, then it can't be food issue.
