Other T20 leagues may have started before IPL, but IPL made it mainstream. Yeah there are some trade-offs, but fact remains that a player does not have to be in the exclusive, mostly unachievable "national XI" to make money as a cricketer. This has raised a multitude of families out of poverty. For this one thing alone, Indian cricket must be applauded. (2) Audience power: Cricket survives today because of the global Indian diaspora. Nothing more to be said. Consequently, the former cricketing elites are now powerless, and that can only be a good thing. EPL started in early 90s.. Cricket lost popularity in Eng and ECB woke up in 2000s and decided to start T20s.. fortunately Lalit Modi was around and IPL phenom started. BacktoCricaddict 1

express bowling Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) Our biggest contribution to cricket is making bowlers 3rd class citizens. Before Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja, all debuting in the 2010s decade, we had never produced any bowler averaging 25 or less in tests ( 100+ wickets ). Till 2010, we had tried to play test cricket without any decent bowlers. No mean feat !! Amazing really !! Edited December 2, 2025 by express bowling Suhaan, Mariyam and Stan AF 2 1
Gollum Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) What is modern India's contribution to cinema, music, literature, science/tech, economy, architecture, cuisine, or any sport? South Korea which was worse than us in 50s (Korean war times) is a world leader today when it comes to cinema, music, cuisine and have Samsung, Kia, Hyundai, LG which are world renowned for innovation. Post pandemic, it was puny Vietnam which became a manufacturing hub, not India. Thai cusine which was unknown till 20 years back has stomped Indian cuiisine all over the world. Singapore crushes India when it comes to research output, Iran produces more top tier STEM talent, even their women talent wipes the floor with ours, despite all the restrictions/discrimination. We aren't innovative people. Ancient Indians OTOH were truly great, real vishwagurus. They were pioneers in mathematics/medicine, yoga/meditation/spirituality, used to construct architectural and civil engineering marvels (which stand tall even today after 1000-2000 years, unlike bridges constructed 5 years back) and compose Mahabharat, Ramayan, Arthashastra, Upanishads, Puranas, Manimekalai, Silapadikaram, Tirukkural while today the best we can make are that ugly Sardar Patel statue, and less we talk about literature, the better. Carnatic and Hindustani music which originated 800 years back predate classical music of the west, and Indus Valley Civilization had drainage systems which Europeans (Romans) could match only 2000 years later. Even today, can you imagine Indians pulling off a Rani ki Vav (constructed by Chalukyas 1000 years back) kind of structure? Sorry if I am being blasphemous, but even Ayodhya's Ram temple which was constructed in last couple of years is so basic and uninspiring. You will find majestic temples (that too easily 1000 years old) in every neighborhood of Kanchipuram (Pallavas) and Kumbakonam/Thanjavur (Cholas), which modern India's architects/civil engineers/craftsmen/sculptors can't dream of making even if you give them all the money in the world. I will be impressed if today's Indians can make a Bhojtal or Kallanai dam with lifespan of 20 years. Why should cricket be any different? Sports is but a reflection of society. Remove your jingoistic glasses and be honest, other than population, what advantage do we have over rest of the world? Or what to do we offer to the world? Colonialism can no longer be an excuse because many erstwhile colonies have left us far behind in 2025. Also we don't lack inspiration, considering what our ancient forebears accomplished in their time. Edited December 2, 2025 by Gollum Tillu, Mariyam, LordPrabhzy and 4 others 7
Chakdephatte Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 What exactly is England's contribution apart from inventing the game?
Chakdephatte Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 We provide a talent pipeline. What else can we possibly do?

What have ECB and ACB have done for cricket in two centuries. How to isolate other countries while profiting with most popular teams. If it was not BCCI, cricket would not have become so popular in sub continent. They brought world cup to sub continent against all odds. Not much of an achivement here, its like Ambani's bragging that their achivement was earning money and giving employment to people to suck blood out of them. BCCI got rich just because of the sheer number cricket consumers in the country. But what have we given back to the game? With a heavy heart i say, Zilch! I wish sports like Football/Tennis becomes popular in India, and we become a global force to reckon with in these sports maybe in next 25 years. Cricket will be shown its real aukat then. One thing BCCI has done is taken cricket out England and Australian hands.

zen Posted December 2, 2025 Posted December 2, 2025 (edited) At the moment, India is keeping interest in international cricket alive due to excessive cricket following in the region, when many of the other regions are probably losing interest in cricket. If more and more regions continue to lose interest in cricket, overall interest in cricket diminish as well including in India. So India’s role or contribution in the near future should be about strengthening cricket across the globe and promoting sporting pitches so competitiveness makes interest in cricket sustainable. PS maybe there is a need to create flexibility to play foreign players in national teams as well. For example, cricket boards can contract 20-25 players for each format in a cricket cycle (for example WTC and World Cup to World Cup in LOIs). Rest of the players can play for other national teams to fill foreign players slots where teams are allowed to play 3-4 foreign players. Here India can contribute as a talent exporter. Not offended bro, BCCI might have the upper hand at the moment, but they have done anything but looked at self interest, we lack innovation, there is nothing that we have done apart from bragging about money. The growth of the sport across the globe has been dismal. WIth great power comes great responsibility and we have failed miserably to use our power for the growth of the game.

Aus used to play same way two decades ago, Infact iirc few players of their the then squad used to say we try to score 300+/350 in 1 day of test cricket,to force results and give ample time to our bowlers to bowl out opposition twice That was an era where we used to see quite a many draws but Aus games always had results(obviously with Aus as eventual winners) Eng has just pretended as it's inventers by giving it a name

Aus used to bat positively in 2000s Even India in the period where we had Sehwag,Sachin,Dhoni was quite positive
