Getting out for a duck once is ok, twice is worrying but getting out for a duck thrice knowing that this is a dead match and you can get your eye and form in, is a huge red flag! Take a few balls, get off the mark and then go after the bowling. Doing so when he's so out of form and knows he needs to get some runs under the belt is poor thinking, especially when this was the easiest match - a dead rubber against a minnow. Now he goes to Super 8s totally under cooked and miserably out of form.

Sometimes just getting off the mark is a big monkey off the back. One well timed shot or one boundary can change everything. Abhishek should've been smart enough to understand that and taken his time to score some runs. Now he'll go out of form against SA and he should take a single before he takes on the bowlers.

India needs an extended batting session to tackle fastish spinners in the PP. SA will bowl Markram and other spinners against them. WI will have Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein, Zim will bring in Raza and other offies in the PP.

 

They gotta learn how to sweep or slog-sweep against them else they'll be tied down while losing a couple of early wkts.

I think the problem is deeper than that. He has played 8 balls and out 3 times + 5 dot balls. He is out of form.

 

Just because he scores 1 run does not mean he is back in form.

Scoring 1 run won't change his form but it'll take some pressure off. At the very least he would've opened his account and wouldn't be on 0. That always helps. And then it's a matter of hitting a couple of shots from middle of the bat and things start falling in place. But at the very least get off the duck, take a single, go to the non-striker end and then decide what to do next.

 

At the moment he's barely spending any time at the crease while getting out within 2-3 deliveries.

In every match, A Sharma has been dismissed after playing 3-4 dot balls in the 1st over.  So, effectively he has been playing (& wasting) one over.  In T20s, one maiden over on a flat pitch, means your team is almost out of the match, if the opponent happens to be a gun team.

Wish we had Jaiswal to take on these part-time spinners in the PP overs. Can't understand how Abhishek is struggling against them
