deepdynamo Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) After all the dissapointment from last night and raw emotions pouring from fellow ICFers, its time to retrospect and dive deeper into issue plaguing our campaign. This thread is only for 3 days before our next match. If we lose that match v Zim, then this thread won't serve any purpose. Otherwise it will continue as long as India win every match progressing forward. 1. Three left hand batsman at top: This is starting to backfire now. Teams have find a way to employ the offspinner and we are basically 0/1 in the first over. This can't go for long. possible solution is to bring Sanju back at top or play Sky at 3. Also Tilak and Abhishek have chosen the wrong time to be out of sorts and out of form. 2. Cut short 200 expectations: Go for middling score of about 175-180 and then look to defend with quality bowling resources. The pitches have been horrendous for India and not suitable for our style. Time to fine tune the approach. Maybe 200 is not needed at all. 3. If not batting, then maybe Bowling: Add more firepower to bowling if we have to defend the sub par scores. Bring in Kuldeep for Rinku. Try winning the world cup with the spin trioka of Kuldeep-Varun-Axar with Bumrah, Arshdeep and Hardik as pace bowling options. We don't have spare batters except for Sanju. So don't think we can do much with the batting except maybe bringing Sanju for Abhi or Tilak. Edited February 23 by deepdynamo
vvvslaxman Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Just pray you don't play NZ and SA again. THat is the only thing you can do. India can get away against other teams even with rubbish teams. But we have to qualify first.
Vk1 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Knowing Gambhir's character, I feel SoS might have already been sent to Jay Shah to bring back phattas resembling highways

zen Posted February 23 Posted February 23 ICF cannot do anything - apart form discussing who or what is panauti, if toss was won, if X had played (hindsight), if moon was at x degrees, etc. Only players can do by playing good cricket. we can only watch the action on our screens or at the ground. LordPrabhzy Posted February 23 Posted February 23 we cant do anything.... neither can ICT now. their NRR is so bad that they need a massive 150+ run win against WI or Zim to even make a dent. Lets be honest are we capable of doing this? I dont think so.

Exactly… fans can’t do anything. It’s upto the think tank.unfortunately the think tank only learns by burning their hands. team wasted time on gill, when Sanju could have got more time. They wasted time with sundar, when they could have given time to Parag. Now they probably learnt the lesson too late wrt to sundar. You dance with the one you brought. Just hope we bring back Axar & find some form at the top. deepdynamo 1
sage Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Someone step on Abishek‘s toe, get him out for a niggle, and bring back Hitman deepdynamo 1
Sean Bradley Posted February 23 Posted February 23 There is no mid way salvaging, there cannot be any wholesale changes after 1 loss. However, i expect Axar to return. Abhishek is in poor form, maybe get Samson back in contention, though it wont make much of a difference. Tilak Verma's shot selection is a matter of concern. Our ability to play slower balls is a concern, Ngidi was so tough yesterday. Fix these issues, work hard on short comings and pray. deepdynamo 1

deathmonger Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) Too much wrist slitting going on. Talking as if we are really out and need some qudrat ka nizam **** to get back in. Take this as the NZ 2016 1st match. SA are a great team and they have been camped in Ahmedabad for days now. They can give similar phainta to WI/Zim as well. Defeat Zim and WI and get in the semis then two games. India play their WI game last so will know the exact equation if it comes to that. Bring Axar back - he is clutch and a better bowler. Samson for Rinku/Tilak to get a right hander. That's it. Adding Kuldeep is not the solution. Batting till 8 is required. Varun's bad day meant needed someone to compensate but w/o Axar that became difficult. Edited February 23 by deathmonger Mariyam 1

I am in Kolkata next Sunday. Have some work commitments on Monday. Decided to travel the day before to catch up with some friends. They keep bigging up some Cat Peter place. Here is the thing. I've attended 2 IPL games at Eden Gardens, both won by I've attended 2 ODIs at Wankhede: 2011 WC finals and 2023 WC SF, both won by team All you guys have to do is crowdfund my ticket. Of course we can't do anything apart from discussion... Not asking any ICFers to barge into dressing room and put a gun on Gambhir head Let me rephrase- What can the team management do to salvage the campaign? zen 1

This is still just 10% out of our control as of now. We can still reach the semis.

Can we leave out Abhishek and bring back Samson just for the left-right hand at top & then hope for the best. Atleast, it will nuetralise the off spin theory. Not sure though. If batsman are not clciking- left or right shouldn't matter.

The only scenario with kudrat ka nuizam if WI win vs both SA and ZIM. But coming back, we need to find few solutions fast otherwise it will become another "Trying same thing and expecting different results". Solutions can be different but sticking to same template can be worked out by teams as shown repeadtly by teams in this world cup. Still, keeping my belief- we are going to the semis.
