Popular Post Ultimate_Game Posted June 7 Popular Post Posted June 7 Didn't see a thread on SKY thanking him for his services to Indian cricket so creating one. SKY wasn't the most talented player but he made the most of his talent. He didn't deserve to play ODIs and Tests but that's on selectors, not him. He was never a game-changer in big matches and was more of a bilateral king but I'll always remember him fondly for two things... 1. That David Miller catch in 2024 WT20 Final and breaking the ICC trophy drought. 2. The whole handshake drama which made Pak lose its collective mind. It was glorious to see them froth at their mouth with impotent rage and then promptly losing 3-0 in Asia Cup followed by another WC humiliation As a captain SKY was very good and wasn't formulaic like we had seen some of the Indian captains in the past. He had a very good understanding of how the game was flowing and wasn't shy of making intuitive decisions. I remember the matches he pulled out of fire in SL where he bowled Rinku and himself in 19th & 20th overs despite regular bowlers being available. And as a captain he delivered winning WT20 at home, winning Asia Cup while blanking Pak 3-0 and never losing a bilateral T20 series! I wish SKY would've been better as a batter coz his captaincy was top notch and would've loved to see him captain till the next WT20 but his performances over the last 2 years, especially in tourneys, didn't justify his selection anymore with a bunch of promising youngsters breaking down the selection door with their performances. Thank you SKY for everything you did for Indian cricket! We'll remember you fondly for your contributions and as a WC winning captain! vvvslaxman Posted June 7 Posted June 7 Reasonably level headed, managed the outside noise, shielded the players from criticism. Did his job. I was not even in favor of him captaining this world cup. But i kind understood where selectors came from. Changing structure at top level at the last minute can create chaos. Even a great team will under perform. Now we have 2 years to build. Time to move on. Yes some want him get a fairwell match. But this is T20. So we shouldn't really focus on farewell in T20. tapandrun, Ultimate_Game, Gollum and 1 other 4

Moving on from him is the right decision, because age+form is not in his favor. Got a long rope, and captaincy honour, not many Indian cricketers (including legends) were backed like him. Need4Speed Posted June 7 Posted June 7 For me Sky is the gamechanger who brought very high SR in the picture for India..even eclipsing some SENA players with his unorthodox strokeplay and high SR before it became a thing..it was refreshing to see from an Indian batter..when most of ours are more traditional and conservative in approach.. He gave sharp tooth to Indian MO… Thanks for being part of 2 wcup winning xi and even caltaining one at home! He brought lot of Entertainment and Freshness to our T20 squad! The opening game in this world cup was a captain's knock! Had we lost that game could have had a different ending to the tournament. Our players would have been in more pressure in the ind-pak game too as it would have had our fate on the line. SKY's failures in knockout matches is a surprise given how nonchalant he's in other matches.
