Ash & Jaddu (20 overs) Vs Australia (I am worried)

Australian lineup (barring Warner) is full of right handed attacking batsmen. While Ashwin is in form now, he generally averages 43 against righties (as opposed to 21 against lefties). Right handers are his weakness and attacking right handers are more so. Jaddu's bowling as of now is shaky at best. Sometimes it works (against SA), sometimes it feels like he is simply feeding off the pressure created from the other end. The heart of Dhoni's strategy lies in his middle overs choke where spinners play an important role. If they are taken out, Dhoni can sometimes struggle. I know our pacers are good but 20 overs is a big big deal and I am unsure about this area. Now there are 2 scenarios that we might face in SF: 1. We will get a pitch just like SA-NZ which aids spin (ball grips too). If that's the case, things are good for us. But going by reports, that won't be the case. 2. We will likely get a pitch that will aid bounce and good fast bowling but will be still great for batting. The problem for us is that Raina doesn't stand a chance against Aussies. So if spinners or even a pacer have a bad day, things can be messed up. I think we need to hold back Shami or Yadav for middle overs a bit and use them in tandem with 1 spinner at a time. And Maxwell has to face only pacers and get to face spinners only if we are left with no other option. So guys, what's your take about these 20 overs of spin against Aus? I am truly worried. But I know that if we win against Aussies, these 20 overs will be our greatest weapon against NZ in Aus grounds (I am backing NZ to win the other SF). Even if Saffers reach finals, they won't damage our spinners as much Aussies can.

Those are seriously going to be crucial. I think Smith is one of the better bat going around to play spin. His ability to come down the track and flick is what is something which we need to make sure happen less. Clarke is already known for his batting against spin, so Australia aren't the same old team which we could look to get cheap wickets of through spin. Dhoni has to make sure the fielders are set such that they are not finding it easy to get singles and doubles as that is what will put pressure on our bowlers. Odd boundary here and there of spin will come, but avoiding those easy single doubles will help us also get quick wickets.

If bounce is there, Ashwin can use that too. I think Ashwin has a better handle on things in Aus, and his top-spinner comes into play on a bouncy pitch.

Ashwin very rarely goes for plenty of runs like 70+ or so. Hence I am less worried about him. For Jaddu the whole batting line up of Aussies is right hander other than Warner. If he bowls with a good plan he can win it for us.

They'll go for plenty no doubt.. it just a matter of holding nerves in those key moments.

Ash is a big match player. Check his stellar record in ICC tourneys. Pretty sure Aussies will find him tough, Sir is the real worry.

Ash doesnt have a great record against Aus, NZ and SA in ODIs. He has done well in this WC so far despite the pitches not assisting him but he will be challenged by Aussie batsmen who are going to go after him no doubt. How he, Jaddu and Raina bowl may well be the difference between a win and loss. Important thing would be for seamers to take early wickets, so that the middle order would be bit more tentative. If they still go after the spinners (which has been their approach so far) and get out in the process, they could be restricted from scoring a big total.

MSD has a lot of trust in Ashwin and has frequently opened the bowling with him in several of the victorious CSK campaigns in the IPL. Wonder if he will try that tactic against Warner (not likely, but possible..)

Australia will target them. I think Ash will manage to hold his ground. Jaddu will have to do some jaadu to save himself. On a typical 300 run wicket I expect Ash to go for 45 runs and Jaddu for 65+ runs. But we can't let them get 300 - our pacers have to get early wickets and keep getting wickets. The Aussies generally don't slow down after fall of wickets, so we need to keep attacking. If we keep attacking we may get the Aussies for 220 or they may get 350+, but if we play defensively they will get 350 for sure.

Ind needs to target OZ's 4th and 5th bowlers. Johnson and Hazlewood can be on and off too. In fact, I wasn't too impressed with Hazlewood .... If Ind plays Starc well, it could do well vs. other bowlers .... The pitch would be full of runs anyways :dontknow:
