Right thing for WI to do???

"What a heartbreak for Zimbabwe. So near, yet so far. Once again, the spirit of cricket debate could be opened up. West Indies are elated, their counterparts are crest-fallen.

West Indies have lodged an appeal. Matigimu could be Mankaded here The bat is just on the line as the bowler breaks the stumps at the bowler's end. To be fair to the non-striker, he wasn't trying to gain any undue advantage"

Poor Zim boys. The captain is in tears. Though it was not against the rules. But was it the right thing to do? Sad that Zim lost the match due to Mankading.

"Coming back to the presentation, the Zimbabwe captain was in tears. He couldn't offer much, and understandably so.

Shimron Hetmyer: Cricket is a game of glorious uncertaintoies. We've seen this in cricket before. It's probably not in the spirit of the game, but we're happy to have won. Joseph is the leader of the attack, and he stood up for us today. I'm proud of him. I hope the rest of the team follows his footsteps and continue the good work.

Mavuta: We got so close, and coming apart at the end. We fought right till the end, don't have much to say right now. "

Present day west Indian cricketers are such obnoxious people. Retards of the highest order. Fit enough to play only in the tamasha leagues. Hope people stop taking these people seriously and put them in their place.

was a warning given previously or is it not necessary?

I'm not sure but I think by law it's not necessary.

I feel a prior warning should be made mandatory before a bowler can mankad a batsman.

In this particular case, the runner wasn't taking an advantage at all, he was on the crease.

This was one instance where I felt the Mankaded batsman got a raw deal.

In all such previous instances that I watched, the batsmen deserved getting out. They were either lazy or stupid or tried to gain undue advantage.

Even then batsmen gain advantage of few runs before being warned.

Just deny batsman what they try to gain.

Allow bowlers to appeal. Whenever bowlers appeal, umpires can go to third umpire and if the non-striker is found to be backing up too far then don't award batting team any run on that ball.

That way bowler won't have to take blame and batsmen will themselves start making sure not to repeat it.

I have not watched the video but based on the comments here it appears as if the act was unwarranted

On Mankading, usually when someone is Mankaded, the batsman would have done something to prompt that action as well. I don't recall who but there was this batsman (may be from Australia, Waugh?) who at times would start his run up by running along with the bowler. That was irritating to watch

I dont see the problem at all. I fully support what the WI bowler did. Rules are rules. Isn't the batsman gaining an inch by leaving even before the ball is bowled? How can you judge the intent that he wasn't taking advantage at all. On the strikers end batsman are stumped by millimeters even if they are not looking for an advantage.

Yea really... i don't get this whole argument where someone is considered a villain and cursed out because they got a batter out within the confines of the laws of the game. The thing that needs to be condemned here is this particular law. But that opens a whole new can of worms. For eg, some of the other things that I have similar concerns about are the following:

1) Mankad, 2) Batter being allowed to execute switch hits, 3) Batter being allowed to move in the crease while the bowler is in his run-up

In each of the above cases there is one side getting some advantage whereas the other side is helpless. Since all of this is part of the game I would not go so far as to brand the bowler as the villain in this case. Reviewing these laws is another discussion but what has happened here is okay imho.

I don't have a problem with mankading.. But in this case, the batsman was not even backing up... It is a poor umpiring decision and a poorer display of sportsmanship.. Looks the bowler decided to mankad the batsman when he started his run up

People need to stop being so emotional about this.

The rules of the game state you are not allowed to leave the crease till the ball is delivered. If the batsman is out of the crease, then he's fair game.

Some may claim he wasn't trying to sneak a run in this case, do you feel the same about a batsman, who's foot slips out of the crease and gets stumped?

the umpire has no choice, the law is clear.they made a mistake in asking the WI captain if he agrees with the appeal.they should have just referred it to the 3rd umpire.

Disgusting .I hope the bowler never makes it to higher level of cricket. They could at least have avoided  the celebrations.

thats kinda unfair, the kid is just following cricket rules which were specifically changed where the bowler doesnt have to get into his action before breaking the stumps.
