express bowling Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 (edited) I am a strong advocate of " Great players do not necessarily make great coaches " BUT they should atleast be proper players or sports scientists. Banger wasn' t even a proper batsman at FC level . I am sure there are better batting coaches than him. Edited June 25, 2016 by express bowling tweaker and TNAmarkFrmIndia 1 1

Everyone wants to work for T20 leagues. Easier job for same cash. Only have to work for 1 or 2 months. IMO,Don't think Indian batsmen need much technical assistance. Just someone to assist them in traning and to make them practice the basics. So a pravin amre or someone like that would have been a waste. And his own batting stats won't reflect his coaching skills anyways. Edited June 25, 2016 by sourab10forever tweaker 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 i wud really like to have mahela as batting coach on board, his sharp tactical mind cud be a real asset to this team. As personality he wud even gel well. This team needs a batting coach who has all condition exp and specialy who could work with them playing against spin bowling. Mahela is one guy who can help with all Im really looking forward to as when they going to have zaheer on board. As far bangar goes they have decent work but the time to rise, BCCI has all the money in the world so what are they waiting for. TNAmarkFrmIndia and tweaker 1 1

Our batting coach should be one who has experience against top bowlers of the world and can give tips regarding sorting out finer issues in their batting that often crop up midway in a series. He need not be a top quality international batsmen but should have sufficient experience facing top bowlers of the world . Someone who has had the opportunity to think about various issues against top pacers and spinners. Edited June 25, 2016 by express bowling tweaker 1
nevada Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Bangar was an allrounder so he can coach in bowling too. He can coach the medium pacers and Kumble can take care of the spinners. tweaker 1

Texan Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Can BCCI clarify what the role of a batting coach is? Is he expected to teach how to bat to Kohli, Rahane, who are already 10 times the batsman that Bangar at his best was? I would rather prefer if the batting coach concentrates on teaching batting to our useless tailenders. I would measure a batting coach's success on how well our tailenders start doing after the coach took up the responsibility. tweaker 1
renjith Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Guys like bangar can only assist the players in training sessions. At max he can work on available statistical data to prepare plans against opposition batsmen. Problem is when a batsman has a major technical problem that needs to be corrected. This is crucial for new guys coming into international scene. They need a good coach to ease them into intl scene. I was hoping for amre. He already proved himself by helping guys like uthappa, rahane, shreyas iyer, ... make adjustments in their technique and to good effect. tweaker 1

Quote Speaking at the sidelines of the BCCI's Working Committee meeting yesterday, President Anurag Thakur appeared intent to carry forward the image rebuilding exercise begun by his predecessor Shashank Manohar–even if it has touched a marginally amusing level this time. Thakur said, speaking about the proposed name change of the 88-year old organization, "Yes, I had put forward this idea in the meeting today. “I think the word 'Control' should be replaced by 'Care' "We want to do away with the word 'Control.' We want to care for our fans, players, coaches, selectors, administrators and all the other stakeholders who matter in cricket," reported ToI. It appears the proposal evoked mixed reactions at the meeting, and the way forward would be known only in the course of time. https://sportscafe.in/articles/cricket/2016/jun/25/bcci-looks-to-change-its-name-as-part-of-image-makeover

sandeep Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 I think its a good idea to retain Bangar - it will help Kumble with transition. Especially with the tour coming up so soon, and for all those screaming about qualifications, Sanjay Bangar has a proven track record as a coach. Go look it up. Even those obsessed with "safedi ki chamkaar" can take solace in the praise he has garnered from phoren folks. Inspite of his lack of coaching experience, Kumble deserves a shot. He's demonstrated plenty of cricket acumen as a player and thats what our young captain needs - An experienced, knowledgeable, credible voice at the table when making the big-time judgement calls. And all he's gotten a 1 year audition as coach - its not as if they just gave him a long-term contract. This is one of the most logical choices BCCI has made after John Wright and Kirsten. I hope the results are similar as well. vishalvirsingh 1

Lannister Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 In between all of this farce we have totally forgotten about useless Dhoni. We are in for a rough ride ahead.
sscomp32 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 ^^ Sorry but i had to laugh. Has MSD done an afridi that he is being talked about in a test series thread?

A player/batting coach should have played in different international condition. While we are lucky to have so many batmen who have loads of International experience, but say a new young batsman joins the team, how the hell coach will tell how to bat in English condition or Caribbean wicket. As far as quality of batsman goes, To me it doesn't matter. A bowler like Kumble can easily tell what mistake a batsman is making and how to exploit it. I will say if coaches listen to headcoach, we wont be doing bad.
