Surely, selectors should pick one of Abhinav Mukund or Gautam Gambhir for Test squad (NZ)?

Both left handers. Gambhir is in very good form, and proven player against International bowlers, so perhaps Gambhir can be given one last chance? Gambhir has worked hard and proven his form in domestic matches now. Abhinav Mukund is not a bad choice either.

Drop Shikhar Dhawan (and drop the uesless Rohit - 30 swiped out against Mishra).

Mayank looked solid too.. but yes, a leftie would be ideal and I hope it is Gambhir (Mukund still has time).. he's looking solid like how he was when he was in form... Pujara has not just shut, but he slammed the door on Sharmaji.. perfect way to cement your spot in the side!

GG/Mukund apart, the selectors need to drop Rohit and pick Manish pandey

Manish Pandey has good temperament...plays well  when the team is in trouble.   We need  such players in the team.

He has also shown  that he can bat on  bouncy pitches.

IF someone has to be dropped its Rohit who has had Nil perfomances so Far, IF anyone deserves to come in team now it Pandey who has done well whenever a chance is given. If its all about ability to change the match it can be done by pandey as well.

As far as gambhir n mukund, They wont be picked now and dhawan wont be dropped now. But soon one of them might get their chance and till then all they can do is pile on runs n build more pressure on selectors. They are also competing against each other

Even credit to Mayank aggarwal he has been really consistent

Lokesh and Vijay the first choice and Shikar the backup opener in the squad. Mukund for me is the next one in line, I dont think time is on GG's side he has been a good servant to Indian cricket but Mukund showed grit in the few chances he did get and he has been a consistent run scorer since.

Pandey should be reserve middle order batsman and Rohit dropped.

Squad:

Lokesh, Vijay, Pujara, Virat, Rahane, Ashwin, Saha, Jadeja, Mishra, Shami, Umesh

Shikar, Manish, Kuldeep, Ishant

Gambo has had personal issues with both Dhoni and Kohli, so I don't think he will get in the team. Even if he was a good opening option, he would hurt team chemistry. We don't need personal issues between teammates to divide the dressing room. I like how our current team actually relishes each others success, and I think it makes them play better as a unit. I say this as someone who had Gambhir as one of his favorite players in the past. If anything, Gambhir would have been a better choice for opener in T20's, as he's usually very good for KKR, rather than Dhawan, but he clearly isn't on the radar there either.

Mukund is good, but I don't know if he will get consideration. Vijay/Rahul are required selections into the team, and Dhawan's style of play is favored by Kohli. Even Pujara can be sent to open if there are injury issues, like what happened in Lanka. Mukund needs a number of statement knocks this season in domestics to get consideration, or if he could break into an IPL starting XI he could get some national exposure and put some selection pressure.

really really liked your comment...

cricket is a team game and should consider situations in the dressing room as well....

For me...it has to be either kohli or gambhir...not both ...... as both of them are short-tempered...aggressive....and give-a-shit attitude....

Kohli is ahead of gambhir....so no place for gambhir....

Infact, i dont mind, if he can directly come into the team as captain...incase of kohli's injury....

(remember bailey, grame smith did it for their countires)

Gambhir does not deserve a place in the team. His average in the last Ranji season was a paltry 37 and he didn't get a single hundred.

He is making some runs in the Duleep Trophy now, but I don't think that is enough. He was given plenty of chances before he was eventually dropped.
