Ian Healy and Mark Taylor are the most biased commentators?

Is it just me or anyone else feel this way? I am passing this remark not just based on one match. They shamelessly pass the biased comments with a cocky tone. More often than not, they make fun of opposition team and opposition captain.

No wonder, they dont get too much of work.

Taylor's still acceptable. Personally I think Healy and Kepler Wessels are the most biased. Some Indian commentators are also biased but not to that level.

I have seen them appreciate good cricket too though. It's all good man. They just talk negative at times about oppositions because most teams do perform real bad when they tour Aus. They were of full praise about Amla,even though he failed in this test. Amla has a career which asks for respect and they were full of praise for him. 

 

And that is an Australi way of seein things. They will appreciate the good and be blunt about crap.

 

P.S- Wait for Pakistan tour later this year. They will hand them 3-0 and it will be fun to hear channel 9 commentary team then.I look forward to seeing that.

Slater is brilliant. Only have to listen to his commentary when Kohli is in full flow to know this.

No problem in commentators being biased. Who likes neutral and politically correct commentators! Only Indian commentators try to be diplomatic.

Agree. Generally I have found Australian commentators extremely biased. Especially when there is a 50/50 umpiri g decision involved. In those cases Aussie commentators are always convinced that the Australian appeal must be withheld. 

 

Just look at the case of Steven Smith's LBW. Aussie commentators were convinced it was not out, but the review showed that it was umpire's call which meant Smith was out. They were still not convinced that Smith should have been given out. In the past Taylor has justified giving Tendulkar LBW out when he was ducking and ball hit shoulder and was clearly going over the stumps. Seen Taylor justify many such decisions that went in favor of the Australians. 

 

Then look at Duminy's dismissal in first innings. It was no way convincing and in my opinion he was not out. But just one look at the replay and Healy was convinced that he was out. There was no way anybody could have figured that out in just one replay. 

 

The only Australian commentators that I have liked have been the late Richie Benaud and Ian Chappell.

Yes, Aussie commies are heavily biased.  Their entire thought process is centered around how and what "Straalia" is doing, 99% of the time.  But I still enjoy watching cricket coverage from down under.  As a whole package its very well executed.   I actually find the shilling for memorabilia more irritating than the arrogance. 

 

MCG Boxing day test is on my bucket list - ever since I watched Veeru smack 'em around all day in 2003.  That arrogance is what made the ownage extra rewarding to watch!

They can, but its usually only when left with no other choice.  And that's fine.  People forget that they are catering to their primary audience, which is the home TV audience - they are giving them the Australian perspective.  Besides, I'd rather have honest bias, than smarmy insincere comments any day.  

 

What I always enjoy about Oz commies is that they don't just babble on inanely stating obvious BS.   They try to get inside the players' mindset and get into strategy etc.  And do so in a reasonably insightful manner.  Shane Warne is among the most one-sided commies ever, but I still like listening to him, because he invariably puts on his skipper hat and says what he would do as Oz Captain.  Gives us a unique perspective on the game.  

 

100x better than the usual filler drivel by the likes of Manju etc.  Even Bhogle was cliche filled, nice as he was.  Once in a blue moon, you will get insightful stuff from Gavaskar, but its the exception rather than the rule.  Most of the time, he'd rather switch his brain off and just prattle on, knowing that he doesn't really have to work hard to keep his gig.  

 

Another good commie is Nasser Hussain - hated him as a player, but excellent as a commie.  Does his homework, and always adds thoughtful analysis to the discussion.  

 

On the Indian side, Ajay Jadeja flashed a bit of potential when he worked with Pakistan TV for the Asia Cup T20, but was pedestrian in the India-Windies Test series - maybe post-game analysis is his niche rather than in-game commentary.

Some amount of bias is natural and even necessary. When Kohli hits a six, I don't expect Mark Taylor to be as excited as when Steve Smith hits a six.

 

But sometimes bias can be frustrating. Like when an Indian batsman is given out to a horrific LBW decision against say Peter Siddle, and you have Healy aggressively talking about how it was the right decision.

 

Or when an Aussie batsman shows unhappiness at being given out, you have Heals egging him on to get in the face of the umpire and not meekly accept bad desisions. But when an Indisn batsman shows unhappiness at a decision, Heals screams "get off the field, mate."

 

Support your team, but make your commentary objective, enlightening and insightful for the viewer.

Healy is at a different level altogether. I don't mind the rest.
There are so many examples where he has made some flippant remarks.

For instance, the last time we toured Australia, I remember one of our fast bowlers putting in some effort deliveries which was appreciated by Brett Lee. And then the batsman drives one for a four and Healy ends up saying, "The bowler is being shown his place" LOL what kind of stupid comment is that!

Ian Chapell

 

taylor, Healy and slater are not overtly biased.....but you can just sense they are disappointed when Australia are losing. That takes away from the enjoyment. 

 

shane Warne is not bad either.
