Kyle Abbott:A victim of SA quota politics or just plain unlucky?

Probably a bit of both. Your first choice 3 seamers are going to be Steyn (can't drop the best fast bowler in the World for the last 6-7 years), Philander (who has a phenomenal record) and Rabada (who has immense potential and has the results to match as well).

It seems like Abbott has leapfrogged Morne Morkel as the 4th choice pacer. Not surprised by it considering how well he was bowling and making the batsman play at every delivery.

It just seems like SA have a wealth of pacers at their disposal and the colored ones are also doing extremely well.

But it seems in recent years, the more diverse SA team the better they play as a unit

maybe lesson for India to get more non-Brahmin and Muslim players into fist class cricket and hopefully Indian team

This guy is seriously underrated, and can hold his own in all three formats. He has got the right attitude for a bowler, something you don't see in our fast bowlers.

Not better than other pacers in African team.others are either equall or better. Abott was bowling at 134K. Rabada was bowling at 139K with same or better accuracy. Just that pitch suited his bowling. but he didnt cause same trouble or looked nowhere near as threatening as Rabada.

This is like Stuart McGill. Just too many good bowlers for SA. Steyn, Rabada, Philander, Abbot, Morne Morkel and more. Just too many excellent fast bowlers. They can rotate them.

@chewy India does not have any quota system for selection - Zaheer Khan, Mohd. Kaif, Irfan Pathan, Y. Pathan are all not Hindus.

A very average and ordinary trundler....Aussie batting and a good pitch and the world famous pak batting in the past have made him look like a world beater.

Has nothing to offer.

of course there is no quota system, but some groups struggle to break through for non-cricketing reasons

and it's not only about muslims, but especially what we call "OBC" and people from North-East, for e.g. the Indian team has disproportionally brahmin representation for such a long period

Based on Ranji performance, and if you are not the top division thats the problem. Folks would have to move from their NE states and play for other states or organizations and get selected. India does not distinguish between its people, they can live and work any where in India other than Kashmir.

Yeah steyn and morkel kept him out, blatant racism

He's obviously not as good as Steyn, but quite comparable to Morkel, and should have been the 3rd pacer. An attack of Philander, Steyn/Morkel, Abbott and Rabada is the way to go... I used Steyn/Morkel given poor fitness of former.

Was this still the strongest SA team?

Kyle Abbot, Rilee Rossouw, Stiaan van Zyl, David Wiese, Rory Kleinveldt, Colin Ingram, Richard Levi all now Kolpak players and at least two to three of these would walk into current SA team

only one Kyle Abott would make this current SA team in place of Phelukwayo. Rilee Rossouw had an outside chance if someone gets injured. that's it.

Rilee Rossouw would walk in ahead of Duminy.
