He will surely make it to Indian team soon. I expect him to do well in ODI cricket. In test, I will be happy even if he can have an impact like Gangiuly had.  

 

I don't think he will surpass Kohli or will be like him. Kohli will be in his own league forever.

I will be happy if he surpasses Virat just like I want Virat to Surpass Sachin or Rohit to Surpass Lara .....doesn't make anyone a lesser player.

Yes, I will be happy too if he passes Virat, however I have more confidence in Virat being just too good to be in the same league as other players and hence I feel that Virat will run away far with big numbers which will be hard for anyone to come close to.

Odd man out....Looks like it is TA Sekhar's "KL Rahul moment that I had"....every good talent spotter does have an achilles heel.

 

Only difference is Sekhar thought Jadhav is mercurial while I thought KL Rahul is just good enough and adequate while he turned out to be someone with a potential to be a world beater.

This year there's been a spurt of big scores - first year with neutral venues for all Ranji games.  

 

Some other outliers - Nitin Saini 28 year old Haryana Wicketkeeper, who nobody has heard of, or cares about, with a career FC average of 35 is averaging 83, already scored 700+ runs.   Sagun Kamat 34 year old career average 35, averaging 65.  Deepak Hooda - uptill now only known for a few good slogged innings in IPL - averaging 88.  Old man Yuvraj - averaging almost double his career FC number.   

 

Could it be, that some of these runs are inflated due to batting friendly tracks?

Star material right there...Dravid his coach and Zak his captain rate him very highly and that is high praise...he was given the license to go for it from his first game....He absolutely took some international bowlers to school,even likes of Mustafizur who still isn't figured out yet at the international level.

What about S/R's....for arguments sake let us say Rohit is a FTB......the best of the best FTB will score a 100 or maybe a 150 .....but here is a guy walks in blocks blocks blocks and then unfolds like hurricane and after the destruction we see scores like 264 and 209,is it the same as another poor FTB getting a 100 ?

Everyone including me is a Pant supporter but how many times some of you need to be reminded that Pant hasn't kept enough so far to be considered just as a wicket keeper in test team of India

 

Standing up close to stumps to Ashwin and Jadeja on slow and turning wicket is not easy and even the best of wicket keepers have hard time so for a newbie like Pant you shouldn't take a chance. This is not about being brave and stuff and picking a young keeper. This is just common sense that when you have two world class spin bowlers, you have to have a more than a decent keeper to keep wickets to them.

 

Pant has a long way to go to get into Indian team as wicket keeper and replace someone. 

 

We should focus on him getting to team first purely as a batsman since he is playing his heart out as a batsman.

True. What does SR matter in Tests in general - it matters in some situations, but not the majority of times.

Hooda was averaging close to 50 even before this season. Saini played a lot at Lahli hence the low average. Otherwise, he is a decent batsman. Yuvraj always scores in domestic cricket. Kamal is a veteran, has scored big scores before too and his home ground in Goa isn't exactly bowling friendly. Scoring heavily on neutral venues only matters in case of batsmen whose home pitches are bowling friendly while, Goa and Baroda don't exactly play on bowling friendly pitches at home. So argument that they scored because they are playing on neutral batting wickets doesn't stand. You can say that in case of Saini and Yuvraj because Mohali at times does support pacers but not always.

The Hood was averaging 42.5 prior to this season - which in Indian domestic FC is not high (also remember Baroda's home pitches were not Lahli). As for Saini, his batting has generally been improving over the past couple of seasons (regardless of avg). Hence, it's not surprising that it's risen eve higher, given that Lahli is not a factor. Kamat has mostly scored because of pattas.

 

Compared to the past, because of home advantage being nullified, I feel that this season has been more batting friendly. Last season, there were raging turners.
