Jadeja might just be better, not just because of today obviously as Ashwin was unlucky at times. But even in South Africa when Jaddu played as lone spinner he had a 6-fer. He can at least contain when he doesn't get much help from the surface.

Ashwin

Ashwin has improved immensely in last two years and will be real handful in Australia or SA with thier bounce .He is a bigger match winner than Jadeja .

Also more importantly he is a excellent all rounder and if we are going with 5 bowlers he is key to the balance.Jadeja batting outside sub continent is not reliable .

Ashwin bowled beautifully today morning. He beat Cook's outside edge so many times and could have had at least 3 wickets today if luck had gone his way. Even in the first innings he bowled really well and should have had 3-4 wickets so he is still India's best spinner on any track if you ask me because of his variations in speed and also his spinning options. Great to see Jadeja pick up wickets when Ashwin couldnt but Ashwin will always be India's number 1 spinner.

Based on today game? Actually that was one of the unluckiest spell you could see from Ashwin.

Series - Ashwin 28 wickets at avg of 30 and Jadeja 25 wickets at avg of 25.

This series was played on flat pitches.

Even on non turners both of them play. Remember, Ashwin and Jadeja gives you one complete batsman. So we can go with 5 batsman + 1Wk + 3 seam bowlers + 2 spinners.

Only on turning tracks - Jayant comes in and out goes a fast bowler.

People really wishing Ashwin to be dropped from test team is just

He is as vital to the test team as Virat Kohli.

Ashwin's average was 24 in this series before the Chennai test. As mentioned before if he had a little bit luck he would have finished with at least 6 wickets in this match and his average would have stayed the same. He did not bowl well only in the Rajkot match, but apart from that test he has been the standout bowler in this series.

Ashwin bowled far better than anyone in this series. He certainly deserved more than 28. Pappu and at times Kohli's field placings cost him few wickets.  Even today he was bowling at least one or two peaches every over. They will play both as India will play only 5 batsmen.

we need 4 seamers overseas, one of them should be allrounder.

overseas, they wont. Overseas, we would need 4th seamer in SA, England, NZ, Aus who can bat too.

Ashwin is pretty much for me the first few on the team list, he is world class spinner now n a great all rounder, his bowling has come on remarkably, today was his worse day, he could have gotten 4 or 5. The way he has now learnt to vary speed per track to get optimum turn or bounce, flight, turn n 5 or more deliveries he can be successful anywhere.

They both should play in every test everywhere as long as Jadeja puts effort in batting. You do not play four seamers just because it is away from India. We played Binny as fourth seamer what good it did, you do not need bits and pieces players.

Pitches overseas are not what they used to.We can play 2 spinners at oval,Sydney .When playing one you have to go for ashwin as he is a better allround bowler and batsman.

If India had a player of the calibre of a Bairstow or a Stokes - one of them - we could play both Ash and Jaddu.  That would be our strongest team away from home - Shami/Bhuvi/Ishant/Ash/Jaddu - you could get enough batting out of Ash, Bhuvi and Jaddu if we had a 'keeper who was good enough to bat in the top 5.

This match has highlighted Sir Jadeja's quality in test cricket - the guy is a spin version of McGrath.  Relentless metronome, always at the batsmen.  Not to mention, all-world fielder, and bowls his overs so quickly that Captain and rest of the bowlers can relax and bowl to their plans instead of worrying about over-rates - always a problem for us away from Home when we bowl a good chunk of overs with pace.
