I would probably take either of Aamir or Junaid over any of our guys. I think they are better at creating wicket taking opportunities in foreign conditions. I think our guys are better at reverse swing in subcontinental conditions.  

Junaid would not be selected for India as we dont select chuckers anymore.....

In World Cup 2015, Umesh and Shami were among the top 5 wicket takers.

Mohit Sharma also did well, picking 13 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 24. In fact, India was the only side to bowl out the opposition in all 7 games before the Semi Final.

 

Indian bowlers have also been important in winning Champions Trophy in 2013 and reaching Semi Final and Final of World T20 and contributed to India being a top ranked side and to be consistent particularly in ODIs.

 

As far as tests are concerned, Shami has done decently since his debut. Ishant and Umesh have improved a lot but they havent won test matches on their own.

 

Ishant did really well in Lord's test and in Sri Lanka series and Shami was splendid in his debut test but apart from that, they were good in parts but none of the other performances really stand out. 

 

Compared to other Asian test teams, I would say they are better because other teams havent done great either but not by much. To be considered actually good, they need to help win test matches.

Its high time they do that on their next tours of SA, Eng, Aus or NZ where they could get conditions helpful to them because they have enough experience in their conditions and have played enough games in their career as well.

 

Good thing about Indian seam bowling is they seem to be on an upward curve. More bowlers are clocking upwards of 140 and bowling more consistent line and length for longer spells when in previous decades, it was the not the same case. I could see India produce a good pool of fast bowlers within the next 5 years or so who will be really helpful in away tours because that's always been our problem area(picking 20 wickets in away tests).

Pakistan won 2 test matches on that England tour - Its not like they blew away England with their pace bowling - Yasir was instrumental in them winning one of them.  India won a test on the England tour as well, with Ishant bouncing out the pommies.  So not much to separate the 2 fast bowling units, strictly on the England tour results.

We started bowling well recently. Have shown glimpses of it in the past but we are starting to get consistent. The competiton is not much because sri lanka and pakistan have been changing their attacks a lot and regardless of that also they haven't been that good.

 

We are doing good for now, and need to keep the consistency going.

However I think Shami is the only world class pacer you have.

 

With that being said India are marginally better than Pak atm who currently have a poor bowling coach.

Asif was a big miss for Pakistan and Amir 2.0 isn't half as good as 2010 Amir. Pak bowling could have potentially competed with RSA and Aus but are presently very mediocre. They are now generating trundlers like no other previous Pak team had ever done. In fact they aren't even producing equivalents of Gul, Rana Naved, Aaqib etc. Junaid was very promising initially but look what he has become today. May be with the shift to UAE they may never produce great quicks like they used to but instead give great spinners. They are becoming like India of old while India has turned the table dramatically. We have a good set of quicks and a culture of fast bowling is sweeping the youth like never before. Thankfully that is not at the cost of spinners. We luckily have good spin back up options like Jayant, Kuldeep, etc but fear they may be unable to break into the team the way Sir and ATGwin are going.

Poster who posted above isn't posting in their dreams JUST READ IT!!! our pace bowlers are way way batter then yours..likes of umesh shami ishant are very much batter then amir chucker junaid and wahab not just marginally and sohil rahat imran khan are all at vinnu Kumar's level!! We have strong bench strength too in domestics , their are at least 5 to 6 genuinely quick right armer's and 3to 4 fast left armer's completely opposite to garbage you are producing now a days

It all depends on fast bowling culture in a country.

 

We are seeing fast bowling culture setting in very strongly in the last 4  years or so in India..... more and more young pacers in domestic cricket and U19 level are bowling with effort, hitting the deck hard while bowling,  gymming regularly and wanting to bowl quick.

 

As a result, there are atleast 20 pacers bowling quick in India now.  Out of that lot, quite a few are skilled bowlers too.

Umesh Yadav and Varun Aaron's emergence has genuine fast bowlers through played a big role. Youngsters saw them on TV. Varun Aaron hitting 153KPH in a domestic match made headlines in 2011.
