India should have batted again

Winning the match beyond doubt. More than 450 ahead. More than 3.5 days left. No threat of rain.

Anyway need to bowl once more either in 3rd or 4th innings, so it's not like any opportunity is being taken away from bowlers.

But batting again would have been good for Rahul, Shaw, Rahane and Pant. Rahul and Rahane need some runs under their belt and get back into form. Shaw and Pant are so young and new, would be good for their confidence to get as many runs as they can early in their careers.

Does the team management think on these lines at all ?

With so much of cricket to be played it's better to be winning game asap and take rest. We have ODI's, T20s then Australia tour and many more matches till worldcup before which we will play IPL. What's use of extending time in such heat?

If 2 batsmen are batting, 9 are resting in the pavillion :winky:

How much rest? The next game is on 12th.

The game is going to finish tomorrow (3 days into the test) even if we bat 2 sessions today. That's 2 extra days of rest than scheduled.

Don't you think it would be better for newbies and out of form batsmen to get a hit and score some runs ?

Rahane will bat selfishly just to save his a&&. I have given up on him.

Rahane and Rahul are players who we expect to do well in what we term as "overseas" series .... But these guys are highly inconsistent atm .... No matter how much they practise, they have the tendency to throw it away when it matters. May get a couple of 50s in the series in Aus esp. with Starc-Cummins-Hazlewood combination expected to be back for the series

For Shaw and Pant, playing Aus in Aus, would be a different experience. And again cannot be replicated by playing WI. Only positive is that they get some confidence out of such encounters with WI. Pujara is probably getting in to rhythm

The ones who want to rest could have rested.

Just play the ones who need the practice.

It's useless to bat again. Batsman will score meaningless runs and centuries and boost their confidence which wont even help for Australian tour. Instead go early for Australia series and practice in those conditions.

I agree that playing WI in such conditions is not an ideal practise for Aus .... But w/ so much time left, we could have played the day out and bowled tomorrow (or late in the evening today) when conditions would be relatively bowler friendly .... 3rd day, 2nd session is usually good for batting

Anyways, the horses have left the stables

It's a bit useless for Kohli and Pujara, but definitely some value for Shaw, Rahul, Rahane and Pant.

Typical indian mentaility of' mujhe to sirf batting karni hai'  There is more to life than watching India bat... such as watching our spinners do well on spinning tracks and making touring teams look like a complete joke?

Spinners would have bowled tomorrow too. Possibly on an even more spinning track courtesy day 3 ?

Our bowling has been very good across the world. But newbies and out of form batsmen need every opportunity to get some batting time and runs under their belt, even if it is against lowly Windies.

Simple thing ... Enforce follow on means no batting 2nd time, no follow on means there's both batting and bowling 2nd time. It's up to us what we prefer. I prefer us to both bat and bowl again because this was just 2nd day of the test and our batters excluding Virat and Pujara need as much game time as possible.
