SecondSlip
The all-important 2019 edition of the ICC World Cup is set to be played this year. The teams have started gearing up for the ICC major and the permutations and combinations about the squad for the tournament has already been bothering the team management. Among all the aspects that needs to be addressed here, a key note that the managements of all teams would be taking note of is to ensure that their players are well rested. Talk about fatigue, and the Indian team players come to the fore. It is not a new story to see the Indian team players feature in cricketing action throughout the year. With the IPL lined up for the players ahead of WC 2019, it is not surprising to know that the Indian think tank would want to rest their key players ahead of the World Cup. Recently, after team India won the ODI series in New Zealand, the Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri dropped a hint at potentially resting Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma from India’s next assignment. Team India is set to host Australia in a home series prior to the IPL. He also noted that Mohammed Shami, who was a star performer in the New Zealand series, deserves rest now. “There would still be one or two places we would be looking at. In general, the team picks itself. What you want is the team not losing form with five games to go for the World Cup. You, in fact, should grab every opportunity you get and make the most of it. Now, Shami would need a break – he has had a long season. Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma could get a break as well,” Ravi Shastri told Star Sports after the completion of ODI series. https://m.crictracker.com/ravi-shastri-drops-a-cue-on-resting-dhawan-rohit-for-australia-series/ Link to comment

Gollum
IMO Dhawan should play, he has had enough rest and seems to be struggling in ODI format lately. Even Rohit can play 2-3 matches, preferably as captain. Kohli can be rested because we need to try out the middle order, but somehow I feel he will make himself available to get some cheap runs. Bumrah too should play a few ODIs just to get the feel, no more ODI cricket after that till the WC. Rest all of them in the useless T20 series. Soorma_Bhopali 1 Link to comment

tweaker
Mayank Agarwal should be selected after Dhawan and Rohit are rested. Shami and Bhubaneswar Kumar should be rested and Rajpoot, Navdeep Saini should get some games to access their progress Sgattick10 1 Link to comment
bahubali
Shaw should be given chance if he is not injured anymore. I eagerly want to see him opening and bashing bowling attacks to submission. He has that penchant in him, where as Gill has more orthodox approach express bowling, diehardpacer and saik 3 Link to comment

He was not in Test team and did not play the first class season . He has just played 8 ODI's in last one month and needs "Rest" . If this is the criteria, we would need rest for entire eleven after every five-day gruelling tests. flamy, Sgattick10 and bahubali 1 2 Link to comment
Oldhere
Just read Shastri's interview on cricbuzz and he has made some good points but 1 interesting piece was of him saying that Kuldeep is now no.1 spinner outside India and not Ashwin or Jadeja. tweaker and diehardpacer 2 Link to comment
Sgattick10
Why Dhawan need rest? He is terribly out of form. Needs to get his form back before WC, or does he want rest before IPL? Link to comment
mishra
If its about giving exposure to youngsters like Pant Shaw, then its fine, but if we are going to play same existing 11 in world cup, then its stupid idea. Players need match fitness Link to comment
