Pant as a fielder is so iffy. He is another fielder Kohli has to hide. To be a number 4, you should have the ability to build an innings with singles and twos and attack the loose balls. Someone like Gill who did step up time and again in the under-19 world cup. Did the same for Punjab. Gill > Pant, Rayudu, Karthik, Shankar. He is a pedigree batsman. He has shown glimpses of what he can do at the top of the order. Rayudu has been batting there for a while, but in my opinion, Shankar has a more all-around game to fit in that position. But our TM would starts with usual garbage 11... top 3+ rayadu+budhau+jadhav in middle order. I would pick top 3+ shankar+ budhau (as we can't get rid of him now)+ jadhav+pandya+ 4 bowlers. Even sane cricketers have become insane Only guy who got a slightly longer run at 4 under kohli has been Rayadu. Many of us called out that is as useless investment as it gets. It took a while for Kohli to realize. Kohli turned that no.4 position into a floater position. Any tom dick and harry can bat there. I remember even Pandya being tried at that position.
