A respected Russian newspaper claims it has uncovered evidence that police in the southern Russian republic of Chechnya have rounded up more than 100 men suspected of homosexuality and that at least three have been killed.

The report in the investigative newspaper Novaya Gazeta said it had confirmed the information with sources in the Chechen police and government, but gave no further details.

“In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders,” Novaya Gazeta reported.

The report was denied by the spokesman of the Chechen president, Ramzan Kadyrov, who suggested there were no gay people in the Muslim-majority region. 

Ali Karimov said, according to the state news agency RIA Novosti: “It’s impossible to persecute those who are not in the republic.”

 

“If such people existed in Chechnya, law enforcement would not have to worry about them, as their own relatives would have sent them to where they could never return,” Karimov added.

Btw, I would like to correct the title. It's the Chechnya region. Chechnya is very different from other regions of Russia for certain reasons.

Chechens are Muslims. 30 years back Chechnya was 65% Muslims and rest Christian; now it is 99% Muslims.

Same could happen anywhere, why just India. It could happen in US before India. 

 

On the cows, I suggest you go through the constitution of India first.

Constitution doesn't talk about what you can eat. It is about cow slaughter. 

 

Refer Article 48 of constitution read with SC judgement of 2005. The regulation was very much in place. It is getting enforced now.

India has 31% of the Worlds cattle!!! give me a freaking break.you know what else is in the the Constitution? ban on homosexuality,police can arrest gay people and it would be perfectly legal if they can provide proof of an act.Basically Cows have more rights than People,i wonder where these Cow Bhakts are when the see a Cow in the middle of the freaking street in our cities .the Hypocrisy is so blatant and systematic of right Wing Governments not just in India.

In the Directive Principles of State Policy (Article 48) enshrined in the Constitution, a duty has been cast upon the Government to take steps for preserving and improving the breeds, and prohibiting the slaughter of cows and calves.

Of course DPSP isn't justiciable unlike Fundamental Rights.

Always love it how libs are ready to anadandon any rationale or accountability on slightest question on facts. Yes, lets not get facts in our way.

There is something called indian way of life. I will give you some example from where I grew up and how it has changed. Its upto you to judge if Indian society has become more advanced for "Good or bad" since last few decades.

 

1. As a kid I remember my family and parent offering milk and puffed paddy to Snake. Now they just kill them. This tradition is still run by few holy people living in small remote temples.

2. While in west, people get hyped up and bring all sorts of insecticides/pesticides, In India i distinctly remember, that when there were too many ants coming out of there holes/colony, People (women) used to  spray wheat flour and ants used to go back inside the colony as it meant enough food for them. Offcourse, as a kid, I remember being told off, if i accidently put a step that killed ant.

3. Forget meat, if someone hit a cow with lathee "baton", he was immediately told off by rest of family member. Indians were brought up to respect cows.

4. Even now, No one gets hyped up looking at so many street dogs. Indian Government did go for humane approach of neutering them instead of neutralising them.

 

Bottom line is , what is right in west may not be right in India. Those who moved to west know exactly that cleaning bum with toilet paper doesnt gives the clean and hygenic feeling but they still do it. Same is with those examples. Visit a slughterhouse in India , then make a decision whether its worth killing a animal, whose milk most of India grows up on.
