sscomp32 Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I would agree if you didnt choose Ash and Shami Big match, lets go for DK over Yuvi Yeah but that's what it is. No other option available. Anyways forgot that yuvi has the big match temperament and Dk is a mental Midget.

We can have DK substitute field for Jadhav - he does have the habit of taking spectacular catches against SA in crunch games. StriKe 1
Soorma_Bhopali Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I think Ashwin in place of Jadeja and Shami in place of Kedar are the only changes we are gonna see
zen Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 My 11 Dhawan Rohit Kohli Kartik / UV / Jadav / .... Dhoni Pandya Jadeja Ashwin Bhuvi Shami Bumrah Pak_cric, Yoda-esque and beetle 3

Ultimate_Game Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 My XI against SA... Dhawan Rohit Kohli Karthik Dhoni Jadhav Jadeja Ashwin Bhuvi Shami Bumrah 1. Karthik in place of Yuvraj. We will get better fielding at least. Yuvi has played his one knock and is unlikely to do much rest of the tourney. Plus he hardly does much these days unless he gets a reprieve which SA fielding is unlikely to offer. 2. Ashwin in place of Pandya. Pandya has to sit out unfortunately as his bowling is a huge liability and his batting is unlikely to make up for it. 3. Shami in place of Umesh. I'm sorry but Umesh is not made for shorter formats as he simply loses it when bowlers go after him.

Besides, If you are going to go with 5 full bowlers, then Jadhav is a better bet as a batsman than Pandya.
CoverDrive Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Shastri says Ashwin in for Jadhav!!! And laxman fully supports him. Wait wasn't our batting lacking in fire power and Jadhav was the one who gave some momentum in the end sandeep and WC2011INDIA 2

Dhoni Pandya Jadeja Ashwin Bhuvi Shami Bumrah This would mean a bigger tail and six bowlers are an overkill in ODI as you cant take 10 wickets on most of these surfaces anyhow. Even with 5 bowlers, Kedhar and Yuvi can chip in a few overs if situation called for it. So Kedhar should play. I personally think Ashwin should come in for Pandya. Pandya is a great prospect but he is a work in progress and he is more likely to go for runs on a batting surface against SA or England. Ashwin is a decent batsman and can score some runs if situation called for it. He is also more likely to do well against them than a seamer. Shami should come in for Umesh. Some good points but 11 should be picked based on the result it could achieve on the field For Ind to do well, the top 3 would need to make runs. If Ind's top 3 click, the RR will likely to be around 6 to 6.5. If the top 3 fail, a relatively long batting line up consisting of inconsistent players such as Yuvi and Jadhav is a hit or miss I rate Pandya as a better batsman than you probably do. The net impact of playing a proper batsman like Jadhav over Pandya is not much (except feeling good on paper). The likes of Yuvi and Jadhav occuping 2 slots in 11 is not a great situation to be in. 1 slot b/w them is acceptable Additionally, Pandya gives you a few overs, esp. with Shami coming back from injury is an imp factor, and his abilities as a fielder are much better than likes of Jadhav, the batsman who could be playing in his place. With Pandya at 6, and Jadeja and Ashwin at 7 and 8, Ind is well covered in batting relatively speaking Moreover, with Ind likely to play solid cricket in batting, seeking to get in to a 200/250 for 3 kind of situation (based on scores and pitches we have seen so far), the no 6 slot need to be for players like Pandya who can change the game in 10-12 balls with their batting. With the batting apporoach Ind is likely to take, it needs as many good bowling and fielding options as it can field On the other hand, if Ind was playing risky cricket and likely to get in to a 150/4 kind of situation too often, I would prefer a solid batsman like Karthik or Rahane, who can play a longer inning more consistently, as the additional batsman In short, Pandya is not droppable considering Ind's batting approach and the options it has. Moreover, to me, he provides that "x factor" to the team, likely to make an impact with batting, bowling and fielding, the parts adding up to provide more value relatively speaking Edited June 10, 2017 by zen Adi_91 1
express bowling Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 -- There is no easy way to play 2 specialist spinners in this team. No matter how it is done, our team balance will be affected. -- If only 2 specialist pacers are chosen, and there isn't sufficient help for spinners, it will affect us. -- If Pandya is dropped...it will be a strange decision because our main problem was lack of acceleration in the last match and Pandya is one of the two who can start hitting from ball one. The other one is Jadhav. -- Not taking advantage of Saffer's weakness against spin may be imprudent too. So, there is no easy solution. My feeling is that it might boil down to dropping the non-star Jadhav for Ashwin.
Pollack Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 How are all of you so sure about Ashwin? Ashwin is out of rhythm. One can see in his bowling. SA is weak against spin generally and so play an extra spinner is so simplistic and stupid thinking. Ashwin adds nothing to the team. Only Shami comes in for Yadav. If there is help for spinner, Yuvi,Kedar and Jadeja would be enough for South Africa. If no help three couldnt do jack and so wouldn't Ashwin.
Soorma_Bhopali Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 We should bring Umesh preferably or Shami against the Bangal boys in Semis .Express Pace is their Achilles heels .Jadhav can make way as he has just been twiddling his thumbs on these perfect batting pitches.
